The last bit deserves to become a meme:

“They’re grown men. Footballers. Just get on with it. Jesus Christ!”

That five-hour coach journey home he keeps mentioning must have been great fun.

Agreed - you can?t only have one way of playing, otherwise you become predictable and easier to defend against. Watch any top team and they?re not averse to a ball over the top and to play at a good tempo.

It is also probably no coincidence that during this recent wobble, two of our last three goals have come from long passes down the flanks.

I've always thought that what defenders want from their goalkeeper is consistency. If they know you're a goalkeeper who comes to claim pretty much everything and is good at it, then defenders learn to expect it and position themselves accordingly. Likewise, if you're a goalkeeper who tends to stay 'home' on your line and let the defenders deal with crosses then that's fine too, because at least they know where you'll be and that it's their job to take charge. Steve Cherry didn't tend to come for much, but on the rare occasions the defenders in front of him didn't deal with a situation, his reflexes and shot stopping were as good as anyone.

One of the worst goalkeepers I saw for making defenders uncertain and jittery was Steve Mildenhall. Some coach early in his career had obviously told him he was a big lad who should come for almost every cross and dominate, but he wasn't actually very good at it, so sometimes he wildly over-committed and other times he didn't move at all, so nobody (me included) knew what he was going to do. That's a recipe for chaos.

Did anyone hear the Stags post match interview? Blimey....
I?ve berated him in the past but I believe we are missing Sam Austin as well.
