It depends on who's available. I certainly wouldn't want us bringing in players just for the sake of it like we seemed to do last season, but we still have gaps in the squad that need addressing before the season begins.

Sounds like he would like two. That sounds pretty much like any other season to me.

Perhaps LW and his coaching staff need someone to tell them that they need more players!

I think LW and his coaching staff already know they need more players, hence why we've already had a goalkeeper and two midfielders on trial.

Unless we've been getting players in on trial just for a laugh of course.

On the topic of the trialists though, does anyone know how the Wadham bloke did at Cambridge at the weekend?

I think we'll definitely get a CM on loan if he can find one which I'm sure there are some out there. I don't think we're done yet plus he's not been happy at the last 2 games at Cambridge so maybe he thinks he could do with a couple on loan if he doesn't think he can train some of them up enough to his standard/get them out of habits. Even if we sign players late they can get match fit in the first few games, friendlies remaining or BCD games. I would like that CM at least, as others have said it's probably been years if you take out Yates 6 months since we've needed one in the right mould.

Wadham wasn't that involved really. Certainly not the hard man in midfield though.

Thought Brooks was good in goal after a bit of a shaky start. 3 great stops kept us in it. If Sam is going to be first choice and we aren't going to have a keeper on the bench, I think we could still send Brooks on loan with an instant recall. He would probably train with Notts for most of the week anyway.

Perhaps we'll see more of him tomorrow then.

I guess that would partially solve the goalkeeping situation, although Sam hardly fills me with confidence; he's a good keeper, but can we really afford to have him making errors like he was at the beginning of last season?

Thank you Woody. I hoped it was no more than 2.

Even though I agree there are probably a couple of gaps in the squad, I've been mainly encouraged by what I've seen so far. I think if things click we can be optimistic, so I've had a few quid on a top 3 finish at 11/4. That appeals to me far more than the 'safe' bet on top 7.

My gut feeling at the moment is that I feel we've recruited a good head coach and a competitive squad, but there are still too many unknowns to be tempted by an odds on bet.

I too considered a Top 3 bet at fair odds, but last season's big Top 7 bet was successful and never really looked in doubt no matter how worried a small minority got. So take those tidy winnings add a small top up and hopefully repeat this upcoming season with another season long sizeable bet.
