    You seriously believe that who is President of the USA has nothing to do with the UK?

    As for being a long thread, that's maybe because the subject IS of interest to those who have posted to it? Don't have to read if you don't want to.

    We will ALL be worse off if the Trump tariff idea is implemented. It will crash the world economy and it won't take 4 years to do it

    @ WTF. I also get my news and info about the US from "the horses mouth" and from going there. But my horses aren't overweight trans with pink hair who insist on using the girl's bathroom.
    The Gaetz episode may have been planned all along. Trump is a clever negotiator. It certainly wasn't a debacle. There's enough debacles in the last 4 years to last a lifetime. The $80 billion Afghanistan withdrawal, the hypocrisy of George Floyd and BLM, the trans men pretending to be women and using girls bathrooms. When a girl complains, she is expelled! Men competing in womens sports. The $billions money laundering disguised as Ukraine aid. The covid scam. Epsteins list of pedos remaining redacted. The southern border leaking tens of millions of illegals being given phones and cash while US citizens are homeless. Democrats in bed with China. Normally, that's called treason. Joe Biden's corruption and dementia being covered up. And despite Democrats being in power for 3 of last 4 terms, the country is $26 trillion in debt. The swamp hate Trump because he's not one of them, and you have swallowed their nonsense to become what Stalin called, a useful idiot. Some of the lies recently...."Trump wants to kill your children", Trump wants Liz Cheyney to be shot. Trump will imprison his enemies (like they did to him) etc etc. I wonder when another woman suddenly remembers Trump groped her in the 70's!!
    Anyway, we both like Leeds United so there's some common ground!

    I really do wish you and others would just f00k the hell off telling me what I've "swallowed" and/or what I believe. I express a view, one shared by a LOT of people the world over and of all political stripes.

    I've lived in various parts ofw the US, albeit for short periods of time (average 9 months), and still have many friends and acquaintances there, representing that broad spectrum. All, from New York, New England, Arizona and California are scared of what will happen come January and those who voted for Trump have suggested had they known who he would nominate it's unlikely they would have done so.

    It's too late now, what will be will be, sadly.

    Yes, you certianly have a sound assessment of the US. New York, California, New England and AZ people are just like All UK ex pats are like London people. I have a hard time distinguishing between the Brits in our sunday football beer league that are from London vs the ones that are from Liverpool, Barnsley, Scotland and Wales.

    My observation to you would be that generally people that make things, grow things, process foods or sell these items look at the world a lot different that people from big cities like London, New York, LA, SF or Boston. Your "cross section" of US is totally different from the people in the rest of the country who actually do the work. I suspect that much of the UK is similar. Ruled by elites that know what's best for the muggles and serfs that toil for them.

    I think the US will be more than "just fine" under the Trump. Watch closely what Musk and Vivek do with the government efficiency project. They could get rid of millions of government workers with little or no impact to the majority of the country. If he unleashes the economy it could be a Reagan like burst of economic activity. The very first day Trump is going to make all the governement workers go back to the office and they will have to actually work. Many just collect a paycheck and no one, including their bosses, has a clue on what they are doing. It was legions of make believe jobs created by the current regime to bolster the economic numbers. Most people can't comprehend a job where you don't come into the office or have performance standards you must meet. It's standard for DC

    You do realize that Trump won 96%+ of the counties in the US?

    You'll be glad I'm not prepared to provide you with an exhaustive list of my work for companies based in the US (it would be a VERY long post), but perhaps a couple of examples will to some extent counter that set of sweeping generalisations regarding those I have worked with;

    Alstom, rolling stock and component manufacture, signalling and infrastructure products, and has production/service capabilities across the US, including in New York, Pennsylvania, California. Acted as liaison between Alstom and UK rail rolling stock leasing companies following rail privatisation in the UK.

    Siemens ? Rail Industry manufacture (Boston), with corporate HQ in New York and transportation (including rail) in Sacramento. They delivered Brightline (high-speed service that connecting Miami and Orlando (Florida). Also Siemens chosen by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) to install Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) on the Queens Boulevard Line. Previous smart card/contactless ticketing systems used in consulting on similar systems for Brightline.

    New England Construction based just outside Providence Rhode Island. Provided consultancy on requirements definition, supplier selection, implementation planning and delivery for QS and Construction accounting

    Heavy industry (literally!) combined with high-tech services, and helping to improve the performance of a well-respected RI construction company. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with all three organisations (and others not detailed).

    if you want to know what the UK is REALLY like, as opposed to what Trumps Truth organ would have you believe, come visit, you might find that we're not living in mud huts and wearing sackcloth and ashes.

    And the Musk/Vivek plans? What are you going to do with the "millions of government workers" you expect them to get rid of? Either delusion, or a recipe for mass poverty, take your choice.
