Ah didn’t realise it had already been picked, but I’d have had Foakes in. As others have said the England cricket team is and always has been a bit of an old boys club.

Bairstow kept really well today and a couple of excellent catches as well. Would you bleddy believe it!

Only saw bits but looked like he did alright. Even sort of day, liked to have seen us bat really after winning the toss.

Got to win it in 3 days looking at the forecast.

Stunner of a catch from Bairstow and great to see his and team mates reaction to it. It will be a shame if the weather intervenes in a test match that looks poised to go either way.
I think Stokes hand was maybe forced a little, at the toss, by needing to win the Test. If we had batting first and put up a score which took us well into day two, we might have struggled to bowl the shackle draggers out twice by enforcing the follow on, with our ageing attack, knowing rain was around the corner.

Hard to say who had the best of day one, it looks a decent day weather wise tomorrow so we have to finish them off quickly and try and build a lead. Well done to Stuart Broad for joining the 600 club, only the second pace bowler to get there. Jimmy was the first, let's hope he has more impact on the game on his home ground than he's managed so far.

Hard to say who had the best of day one, it looks a decent day weather wise tomorrow so we have to finish them off quickly and try and build a lead. I think England won the last 2 sessions. I found the morning session a weird one. Jimmy was bowling Ok in his first spell and had the ball nipping about. Stokes decided to change both ends after 4 overs each and in that spell the wicket looked flat and the ball didn’t do a deal.
After lunch England regrouped. Bowled better line and length, which got then the reward. Although Jimmy didn’t take a wicket, being tough to score from opened up the other end. Woakes was superb.

Woakes is a heck of a Test bowler in English conditions, not so hot in away Tests lol
