Every parent, when trying to explain to their kid how to grow-up and be a vibrant, positive energetic force in the world, to be successful and happy, points to Bertie as an example of what will happen if they fail.
He is the antithesis of happiness, success, positivity, and creativity. A complete and total sadsac loser, in other words. Someone so unappealing, devoid of interest, devoid of charm, devoid of anything good, that you can't even feel sad for the boner.
