These are very good IBS. (I'd never have worked out the Davis part via the record - clever that - but I might have got it from the clue about his pianist Bill Evans. I only really know "A Kind of Blue" not being a great jazz fan .)

I'll leave the last one. Time for bed.

Many thanks for the pleasant diversion.

As you have probably guessed the clues are more Ted Rodgers than the Guardian. Here is an updated list of those still to be completed and some more additional clues:

He only had half the faith to become the second Republican and even then he left something out.

This newspaper didn't take the p@ss but inserted a cup.

This compass point needed some Tetley and was joined by a Beatles narrator.

The one to be conned had a Brass main man next to him.

The irony: I had to lift the supporting device and I saw that the button wasn't off.

The first half of the mountain had a hooligan jumper on it.

The fifth Beatles wife was also a party goer.

    Once Saul was very threadbare.

    Miles Addison

    Very good CT.

You might not have been in the UK at the time but there was a comedy called BRASS which used to be on TV. The league character, played by Timothy West, was BRADLEY Hardacre.

Unless it's 'Adley' as in Canonball Adderly who was a 'main man' with Miles Davis and played a brass section instrument? (Just picking up on your earlier train of thought...)

Your reply came in before I wrote my stab at the Radley part above. No I didn't know the reference to Bradley Hardacre and Brass. My interpretation was obviously a bit obscure!
