Just had a reply about the footbridge and it states:-

Access to cross the footbridge at Derby station is only available when in
possession of a valid ticket to travel, however members of the public who
need to use the footbridge on a regular basis may be able to apply for a
bridge pass by visiting Derby station to enquire.

    Signed by Customer service.

Seems we will have to walk around, although I walked across the footbridge with the barriers down about 10:30 last Saturday evening.

Have to say I got off a train once and couldnt find my ticket (after the chap had clipped it) so went to the barrier and they wouldnt let me OFF the platform without a ticket.

I sat down at the barrier and got out my paper... they soon opened it.
