Thatcher left the Falklands virtually defenceless despite noises coming form Argentina they wanted to take them back. She let her defence secretary fall on his sword and carry the can. She made sure there would be no diplomatic solution by torpedoing the Belgrano. She had blood on her hands. But it worked. Her failing governments popularity went from the depths to through the roof. Its amazing what a bit jingoistic flag waving can hide.

As much as I can't stand Thatcher and she is not the saviour of the Falklands by any means, she did the right thing in defending them.
The people on those islands are British, just like you and me.
