    Done deal, by all accounts - 30m plus add-ons..

    Disappointed that he's gone, but that's a great bit of business by Saints and, if the money is pumped back into the squad, it gives Koeman the chance to improve a number of important areas across the pitch.

    Cheers Luke, and all the best for the future..

    Would echo that and wish him all the best.

    The only fear i have for him is having his wings clipped up there. With Smalling & Jones in defence he won't be allowed to go flying down the wing as those two can't be trusted on their own..

    Southampton FC
    @SouthamptonFC
    Les Reed: “This deal is a good one for #SaintsFC, and hopefully sends a clear message to other clubs wishing to bid for our players.”

    The only message I can see is: " if you bid high enough all our squad is for sale."

    Not wishing to sound defeatist but if we don't sign some replacements next week the odds on us being relegated are going to shorten rather quick.

    Although the chances of us getting replacements as good as the players we are selling for the same money are not great, if Koeman is an astute operator, he should, with the 30 million added to whatever transfer fees we receive, be able to build a good team for next season. A lot depends on who he buys. I expect we'll see a few Dutch players coming in.

    Indeed, although I won't criticise the board as I'm not sure they could have done much else once the players made it clear they wanted to go.

    However we will be starting the season with a new manager and half a new team by the looks of it which in itself is worrying. It's ***** that the money we receive is spent wisely or it could be a long old season. Huge summer for the club, hoping there are no more departures but it's hard not to be concerned about the future.

    Transfer fees always tend to get exaggerated.
    I remember when there was a thread about us getting 8m for Lambert. In the end, after Bristol Rovers took their cut, we got just over 3m for him. In fact, we probably haven't got any of it yet. Payment of these fees gets spread over many years. A lot of the performance related add-ons are almost impossible targets, like scoring 25 goals or winning the Champions League next year so they are rarely ever paid. The big clubs, like Liverpool and Man United, have massive debts so they can't afford to pay large fees up front.

    So we have sold young Luke Shaw for an amount of money that none of us can comprehend !? .

    Good luck to him in his future career. He has worked hard and taken full advantage of the opportunity given to him by Southampton FC.

    Step up the next young, ambitious , talented footballer from the academy.
