[quote="Ramondo"]As of now, IF Thorne signs (and still a big IF) then he will be our only real signing in terms of players you'd expect in the first team.

I know it's still a few weeks to the season start and a little while longer till the end of the transfer window but is George Thorne really worth an amount that could be up to AŁ3m? Compared to what it cost us to get Bryson, or Martin, or anyone else?

That is a heck of a lot of money for a club that has been run with austerity as it's backbone in order to comply with FFP. That's quite a big spend full stop, yet alone for one player who has already missed time through a big injury.

I'm not doubting his ability or his contribution. He's class and will be a successful premier league player at some point. But to spend AŁ3m (or towards that, even including add ons etc) is a heck of a gamble. IF it happens.

As good as he is, how many other players of the caliber of Bryson and Martin could we get for that mon

there's been no false dawns from SDSR fella. it's happened as he said it was, even if it is a couple of days later.

I'm not defending every person who claims to have a source but i'll say it again, I trust SDSR's 100% record.

    Errr..so they were false dawns

err, you'll have to explain to me what a false dawn is as I thought it was something promising that turns out not to be. SDSR said we'd sign him this week. where's the false dawn?

if we don't sign him I'm very happy to say I was wrong in backing the wrong horse but I'd say this one was a dead cert :-)

Can't believe some of the negativity on here at the moment.

Given the performance ( of team, managers, club executives ) since McClaren's arrival do they all not need to be trusted?

At the moment the fee for Thorne, if he signs , is not known yet so why pontificate about it?
For me Thorne massively improved midfield and was significantly better than Eustace ( Eustace was steady but made some horrendous errors due to his poor decision-making and lack of pace - for example ,the goal away at Forest started with such an error ). Thorne was good defensively and also improved our attacking.

The two players not replaced mentioned by Ramondo, were both loaned mid season, by McClaren. There is plenty of time to sort out some loans, when the Premier league teams have sorted their squads out.

There is a concern about our defence given we conceded more goals than the other top teams last season. Was this due to our attacking style or weaknesses of the defenders? Did we lose heavily or poorly a

The only players I can think that are not in the team that were last season are Wisdom and Bamford. Wisdom has been replaced by Christie who is a very good young player, and Bamford was a sub most of his time at Derby, so that wont take much sorting. And of course Thorne will prob sign at some point. I do not need a source to predict that.

I didn't like Bamford, and he was essentially 5th, maybe 6th choice in terms of our attacking three with Martin, Russell and Ward, as well as Dawkins and Sammon. We were linked to Lukas Juke and had bids turned down so clearly we are looking at that area to fill an attacking gap, and I'm sure Juke wasn't our only target for that area so we shall have to see if any more come along.

Well I hope he signs soon. I'm laid in bed with a bleeding ball bag from a failed attempt to go downstairs to play on Fifa following surgery late last night - and now my stitches have come out.

Literally can't do anything but wait for him to sign/do work I can't be ****d to do.

All on you George. Make my ball bag better!!!

    re: Thorne transfer update

I think Thorne is a great player who I'd love to see at Derby.
But for anything rumoured the near AŁ3 million pounds asking price it's to expensive.
We still have to stick to FFP and the team needs strengthening in so many areas that AŁ3 million is just to expensive. And we are still losing money as a club.

As it stands at the minute the team is considerably weaker than it was last year, with no signings of any note to improve the first team (the young lad from Coventry by all accounts can't defend according to the Coventry fans)

And all the 'sources' rumoured on here make me laugh, most of the information can be found as rumours on various websites, with predictions varying from; Thorne will sign today, he will sign in the next few days, by the end of the week, month tops, or he changed his mind for more money and stayed where he is. To me that's not a source that's just guessing.

If someone has a reliable source please come out and say what other transfer targets we're after, not
