Wayne Rooney was a raw talent spotted as a schoolboy and signed for Everton aged 9. He will definitely have been coached at Everton as a 9 year old, that is without question. That coaching along with the teaching he would have had at United will have made him the player he is today. Without it I doubt he would have attained the levels he has.

And how many more times . . Dixie Dean was playing in the 1920s and, today, would have been spotted by a scout and coached to take best advantage of that outstanding talent, much as Lionel Messi was.
