He might be a true Football fan but the victim card thing is getting a bit tired, Scotland failed to qualify because we weren't good enough.

[quote="happytim"]its quite incredible how so many people on one thread can miss incidents that blighted scotland during the euros.

we conceded 2 offside goals in the group, tonight v poland and v ireland in dublin which not only cost us 4 points but gave both poland and ireland 1 extra point they did not merit. with both ireland and poland on 18, and us on 12, the real tally should be 17, 17, 16. assuming we would finish on 19, only 1 team from poland or ireland could have topped us, meaning we would have earned at least a play off spot.

and all that with ireland still taking 4 points from germany, who could have forseen that.

also i watched both games tonight as i switched betwen the 2 and germany created a lot of chances v ireland but lacked any conviction in front of goal, which is very ungerman like, germany should and could have won this game convincingly, they created far less chances in both games v scotland but scored with the few they had.

There is not much between Scotland, Ireland and Poland and those games were always going to be tight.

The difference was that Ireland and Poland but managed to beat Germany and Scotland didn't. But it was the Georgia game that really phucked things up.

I think Scotland have been quite unlucky but as you say we've seen it all before

Why is it smaller countries than ours can produce quality players? Is it because as soon as our players land the big Contract, fancy house and car the attitude is job done no need to try any more.Watched an interview with Lionel Messi and he was asked if he ever stopped trying because he'd won almost everything he could. His answer was"If you love the game the rewards are great but you always want to be better".

Where HT certainly is right is that the difference between success and failure really is marginal. It's silly to condemn the entire nation's football players when success swings on a few close incidents which could have gone the other way.

Sad fact of life is that when Scotland had a good international team we also had our club teams parading Scottish born players for our club teams.

When Celtic,Aberdeen and Rangers won in Europe, every player was Scottish ,same when Dundee utd were in the Uefa cup final ,we used to play all Scottish players in our club teams and our international team also had its best spell.

There's been occasions in the past 25 years when only one or two Scottish players were on the field in SPL games, and yet we wonder why our game is suffering, for every Henrik Larsson or Brian laudrup there was 100 bad foreign players, yet we still played them.

All fans of major teams have to take as much responsibility as the club themselves for the lack of success in the international game.

I think we should have at least have 8 Scottish born players in every club team,if not we will always be a third rate international team

If sevco won the petrodiddy cup last year Scotland would probably be world champions

Celtic and Aberdeen both have 13 Scottish players in their first team squad. Hearts have 16.

In the last round of premiership games,Celtic started with 5 scots,Aberdeen with 5 and hearts who surprisingly with what seemed a full team of scots last season started with 4.

What made us all believe that buying foreign was better than homegrown players.
