Well what's the alternative? 'Up and coming' lower league strikers? Im hearing suggestions of armstrong from league 1 coventry and bradshaw from league 1 walsall. Are they taking the piss? Might as well play lewis mansell!

Back in the real world, we need proven quality if we want out of this division.

The alternative is we don't actually need another striker
just a intelligent attcking midfielder and extend the loan of Lawrence and Henry
on the forward front we have koita for the direct approach and Lawrence,Taylor or even delfounso for the speed option
little tweaks are needed to make this side a good one in the championship not 2 useless lumps up front.

The players we have are proven to be not good enough for top 6 and darling Rhodes is a major part of that.

Saxo, your craving for ineffective strikers on high wages will undo all the good work Gary Bowyer put in helping us get out of the transfer embargo.........totally agree with robin... no strikers needed.

An attacking midfielder might stiffen the centre of midfield and make opposing central defenders more redundant - especially if they play with 3 centre-backs against one attacker(Rhodes)or sometimes no attackers aka 6 in midfield; (just like del Bosque for Spain ha!ha!)

The problem is, Saxo, it's a huge gamble. Lots of target-men seem to have one good season where they get lots of goals, but then struggle to score, whatever their other qualities. I suppose even Leon Best did that.
Take someone like Yakubu, who combines physicality with goal-scoring prowess and had an excellent spell with us. Even he has a patchy overall record.
Rhodes is frustrating, but his goals-per-game record can't be a fluke.
I still like the idea of being flexible. In other words, I would like us to have BOTH a speedy support player for times when a 4-4-1-1 formation would work best, with the possibility of using the alternative of a big target-man alongside Rhodes when that style is called for.
I would be content to see Rhodes go for 10M+, but it is a bit of a leap in the dark to get rid of someone with his record. It's all very well to say most of his goals have been handed to him on a plate, but that still begs the question: why don't all centre-forwards have his goal-ta

Because other centre forwards regard the team before themselves. Simple. Is Rhodes the type that comes across as happy to win when he's not on the scoresheet? He's seemed to be massively unhappy in every game under Lambert despite our reasonable team form, goals scored from other areas and rise up the league into contention. To me, a non scoring Rhodes is bad enough as it is, but a sulking Rhodes possibly eyeing up boro's lofty league placing and what might have been, is no good for anyone.

    The boy has to go.

I do agree that I would like to see him looking a bit happier and more enthusiastic. Perhaps he's just naturally the understated type. God knows, there are far too many of the opposite type in football!

I personally guffaw at this professionalism myth painted of him. He went to the media ffs complaining at us not accepting a reported circa 8m bid and now this minimal effort and sulky demenour. Yeah right, really professional! Hey though, he's never injured.. But oh yeah, he'd lose appearance money if he was, right?
