Spot on sir the days of large crowds for 99 per cent of Scottish clubs are long, long, gone - you even have to go back FIFTY - TWO years till the last time Queens had a decent average attendance of 4,153 yet within only THREE years they had disappeared like snaw off a dyke to 1,662

Your post was spot on Cresswell. If Strictly Come Dancing , X Factor or whatever else rubbish was going on in my back garden then I wouldn't open the curtains to see it. Each to their own. I would like to be realistic and think we can get back some people that used to go to Queens games but for whatever reason stopped. As has been said before, Saturday working is part of a normal working week now and that doesn't help . Ftivano - that is a startling drop off in attendance's between say 1964 to 1967. Celebrity in the Jungle wasn't on back then was it ?

The fact that we are getting similar gates now as compared to 50 ( FIFTY) years ago suggests there has been an ongoing problem going back decades in trying to get the locals through the turnstiles. There wasn't as much leisure choice in 1967 as there is now either.

Some interesting points on here as always, but I think we're maybe getting a wee bit premature in terms of getting fans to come back to Palmerston.

As Cresswell rightly points out, the crowds are definitely lower at the moment than even a few seasons ago, -and we will never return to the halcyon days of the 50's - that is a fact.

However, many latent Queens fans have seen false dawns before and it will take a lot to get them back, - but we must be patient.

Let's be honest, the prospect of watching Stenhousemuir for a second time in a few short weeks did not exactly fill me with awe, - regardless of how well Queens are playing at the moment, - and I suspect that quite a number of people thought "'ll save the hard earned cash for another match."

Nevertheless a 7-1 victory will have registered with a lot of people in this area and I'm sorry guys but I haven't heard the negativity that some of you have. Having said that, - I would correct people if they slagged off Queens when they are trying so hard and perhaps more of us need to simply talk the team up.

The Raith match will see a healthy 2000 plus in attendance, while the Hibs game will be about 5500, as the Hibees will bring 3000 supporters for what should be a 1st v 2nd. I would have expected a larger attendance than even that, but with 3 matches in that week (including Rangers at Ibrox) many Queens fans will simply be out of pocket.

The Hibs game could be the turning point; if we beat them at Palmy then all of a sudden the false dawn may send streaks of light into many living rooms across Dumfries and Galloway and a few more might be encouraged to come away from their TV's and computers.

If we then keep the performances going, including plenty of goals, new fans will start coming and that is what we desperately need, - as you cannot expect the elderly to come out in the depths of winter.

Keep the faith lads, - we will never get average home fan bases of 3-4000 again, but 2000 home fans should be more than possible if we keep the run going and if the SPL looks even a faint possibility then 2500 might be attainable. Once you add in away fans, a 3000 gate at Palmy suddenly makes live football very, very exciting indeed!

I thoroughly enjoyed the match on Saturday as its always good to see Queens score goals for fun and it puts the last performance against them away from the mind.

One really good thing to come from the game is Rigg`s performance from the bench which also came with his first goals for Queens.
I liked what I saw of him but it will be tough for him to get in the starting line up but if he can keep delivering when he gets his chance is always a good thing for the team and the manager to have.

The crowd was personally what I thought it would be as we have at the moment about a 1,000 die hard fans.

I do hope we can get more fans coming to league games if the team can keep up the performances and high up the league which we can only hope brings back the floating fans and past regulars that no longer go to games for whatever reasons.

Here is the crowds from the other Irn Bru Cup games which shows Queens 1,158 being the 4th highest on Saturday and 5th overall the weekend.
    Saturday
    Albion Rovers 3 - 4 St Mirren (711)
    Alloa Athletic 3 - 0 East Fife (444)
    Brechin City 1 - 5 Dunfermline (577)
    Dundee United 3 - 2 Peterhead (3,520)
    Falkirk 6 - 1 Elgin City (1,591)
    Forfar Athletic 3 - 2 Raith Rovers (690)
    Livingston 5 - 1 Celtic U20 (1,214)
    Queen's Park 2 - 0 Morton (1,085)
    Stranraer 1 - 0 Dumbarton (401)
    Sunday
    Ayr United 3 - 2 Airdrieonians (1,135)
    Turriff Utd 0 - 3 Hibernian (1,791)

Shanty outside the big teams you have mentioned the only way that 2,000 crowds will be seen at Palmy is if the likes of Falkirk, the Pars, St. Mirren bring around 350 - 400 fans. Can't see 2,000 home fans turning up imo.
