No he said the new manager was going to have Championship experience and then goes and gets one from the Sunday pub league that is the Scottish division 2. A manager who was deemed to be a worse option than Redfearn at the time he was appointed yet when he applies again we choose to employ him, despite Redfearn's failure.

He said we would have a team competing comfortably in mid table pushing for the play offs, in my opinion we will be lucky to find 3 teams to finish below us based on the squad as it currently sits.

I don't see why a dose of honesty and reality would hurt because the club would be keeping the fans informed and the fans could buy into the clubs vision and see the club is delivering on the plan. The current unrealistic aim for the stars rhetoric and the failure to deliver results is unhelpful to say the least.

The difference between Barnsley and Rotherham United last season was Barnsley said to their fans look we are going down the route of signing up and coming players, it might not be pretty, but long term we believe it is the way to go, hence low expectations amongst the fans but they understood what the club was trying to achieve. Rotherham say we pushing for the promised land, we're going to sign £1m+ players, we going to extend the stadium, etc.

Barnsley delivered exactly on what they said, the Millers did not.

Fast forward 12 months we get exactly the same bull**** and we get exactly the same result.

I didn't believe the crap that was being spouted either time as I've supported the Millers long enough to know you expect nothing, so anything else is a bonus.

I do resent being treated like a mug though, one whose incapable of seeing through the spin and feel that the reaction this week would have been far less hysterical if a realistic plan was set out to the fans, one which clearly sets out what the club is looking to achieve and one that we the fans can benchmark progress against.

Most of us know and accept that fourth from bottom in this league is a major achievement for a club with the resources of the Millers.

It's not us who are inflating our ambitions but the club themselves and that is why so many people have been so upset this week when the club has failed to deliver on it's "promises".
So, what do you want the chairman to do then, really, say nothing? tell everyone the 'truth' that we're struggling to compete and may be relegated because of that? If you didn't know that most of that 'spin' was to sell season tickets then i reckon you must be about ten years old, that's how it goes, i really think it's you who should get real, we've had unbridled success over the last 5/6 years and the first time it gets difficult you're on everyone's case, as i've said before, you're not a supporter in my eyes.

Yes, i think most fans realise it's always going to be a struggle, but Tony Stewart obviously runs a tight ship and won't bankrupt this club, and i applaud for that stance and bucking the trend against this insane market place, will we go down? who knows, but i won't be whingeing, i'll accept that at this moment in time we cannot compete financiallyin this league (and those that are, will find it increasingly difficult and will be in big trouble down the road)

Chairmen we've had during my 51yrs watching RUFC. Standout ones not for all the right reasons.

Eric Pursehouse. Tommy Doc said he put in a bonas scheme in for goals scored. Every time we scored a goal chairman was shouting for offside.

Anton Johnson he got us best side I've ever seen. But whose money it weren't his.

Boothy weren't that bad. Kept us afloat. Made sure he got his money back he invested.

Tony Stewart runs it as a buisness but does reinvest any money made. He's straight up front. There's no catches, tells it has it is.

Best chairman by a country mile in my half century + as a RUFC fan.

Yes I'm disappointed with the transfers but I appreciate the stand TS is taking. Do we want to end up like Darlington with a new stadium but in what league?

    You're wasting your time a123!
You've answered the original question in a coherent and rational way but the guy who asked it, and some of the blind faith merchants clearly have no time for alternative views.
Every fair minded Rotherham fan will be forever grateful to Tony Stewart for what he has done for the club, indeed Rotherham United probably wouldn't exist if it wasn't for him.
But that's history now and we can't keep harping on about the past because businesses that keep looking backwards will not go forwards.
The club is embarking on its third season in the Championship and for the third time the chairman is talking about the promised land of the Premier League although it is apparent to most people that our budget and recruitment aspirations mean we will do well to survive another year at this level.
People say TS makes these statements to sell season tickets but that just doesn't wash. He really seems to believe his own hype and this is why a lot of supporters get upset.
If TS genuinely believes his "dream" is achievable then tell us what the plan is.
You can't routinely sack managers and operate within one of the smallest budgets in the Championship and expect to hit the jackpot.
So maybe what "TS has done wrong" is not to have brought in additional investment to help fund his ambitions.

Mellow I asked the question which means I was asking for alternative views.

I don't get it that's my opinion all the ones slating him and there is a lot in my opinion are just like the kid who didn't get what he wanted so stamped his feet in anger.

That's my opinion others have there's

    Thanks for the condescending reply.

Yes it would be quite refreshing for the club to cut the crap and tell us what the true plan is.

I've already said that I don't believe the spin, you obviously missed that bit, I just find it unnecessary to do it as it's trying to get people to part with their hard earned cash on false pretences. I am not, you may not be, but some are stupid enough to fall for the false promises so it's totally acceptable for them to react negatively when the club fails to deliver on these false promises.

I've not once slated Tony Stewart and said he should feck off as a number of other posters have done, I have said he should either tell us a true real plan that is deliverable on our budget, or he should try to find some additional investment into the club to enable us to compete at this level. I don't think either option is unreasonable.

I've not once suggested throwing millions of pounds around signing over priced players, but I do feel given the level of ambition stated by both the Chairman and Manager it is a joke the we failed to sign a centre forward or striker in 3 months of trying. Other Championship clubs of a similar size and stature don't seem to have had the same issues we have had, why is that?

I've seen us be here before, fail to invest adequately and crash back down the leagues to what some may say is our natural level in the game. It would be nice for it to be different this time, but given where we currently sit it won't be.

But don't worry in happy clapper land it's easy to drop down to league 1, come back up at the first time of trying and somehow do it with a squad who is going to be far more able to compete at this level. I personally think you guys will be in for a massive shock.
