It's you - and anyone else on this thread who has disagreed with what I have said, who is talking sh!te. It is clearly stated by Muhammad that you must follow the exact word of Allah, and that word has been recorded in the Qur'an. Just because some, or even most, Muslims choose not to do that, because they don't want to go around murdering non-believers does not mean that their "interpretation" of the Qur'an is true. Any Islamic scholar or imam worth their salt (be they peaceful, moderate, extreme, good, bad, whatever label you want to attach to them) will tell you, that the word of Allah as recorded in the Qur'an MUST be obeyed. It's not up for question or interpretation, it is fact.

So again, that you, millmoormagic or anyone else choose to believe that all this is just down to different interpretations matters not. The Qur'an is completely unlike any other religious text as it is the only one that is the word of God rather than man, and as such it can not be challenged by any man or woman. It's fact. Just because some of you struggle to get your heads around that does not make it untrue.

So what you're saying, Ellis, is that most Muslims have one interpretation but that interpretation can't be the right interpretation because there is no such thing as interpretation only the written word and as the written word is the word of God it can't have an alternative interpretation? But isn't that a contradiction, because if there's no such thing as misinterpretation how come most Muslims - as you say - have misinterpreted and isn't any written passage, by definition, open to interpretation?

In the case of the Qur'an if two Muslims read the same passage and determine to follow its teachings but each interprets the meaning of the passage differently how can anybody state categorically that one of them is right and one of them is wrong? An Imam might determine one is right but he can only do so by basing his decision on his own interpretation or teachings, which may or may not be what was intended when the words were first written.
