I think if we were in that position I'd have mixed feelings.
I'd be quite excited that people with unimaginable wealth were interested in buying our club but I'd also be pretty concerned about what their ulterior motive might be.
It sounds as though Barnsley are between a rock and a hard place because of the sad situation concerning your owner's health.
However, Patrick Cryne has always come across as a genuine sort of person and I'm sure he'll try to put the interests of the club first when arranging its sale. Also the fact that the family want to retain a 20% stake is an encouraging sign.
If the sale goes through I genuinely hope it works out well for you and you can bet all the local clubs will be watching developments with interest.
    Good luck.

These guys have got too much money for the sole reason to knock Oakwell down and relocate for a few million quid. They are massive into in hospitality, entertainment, retail, hotels, gaming, resorts, etc all across Asia.

English football in huge over here. Could be a combination of good way to impress clients, great kudos for their business portfolia and, maybe, an advertising vehicle to promote their brands in the Asia and Far East markets. They will have no reason to want to waste money and ruin the asset.

Just speculation on my part and wondering why New City Capital would do it.

Many thanks for all your kind words .

It's not clear why the chinese want to buy my club , that said we are debt free , in fact we are in profit to the tune of several million pounds , have a growing reputation for unearthing young talented footballers , we sit one league below the big time and we are available to purchase .

The only word we have so far from the consortium is that they are looking to extend their portfolio and are looking to invest significant but not extensive money into the club .

Their track record at Nice seems reputable , they wanted to purchase Hull and then Middlesbrough but couldn't reach agreements with the present owners .

We are third choice and clearly this deal should go through easily enough and give them the opportunity they seek .

We won't know of course what we have owning us until they have their feet under the table .

First job is to retain our championship status , a test of their commitment early doors .

Perhaps having China Steel on our shirts could be controversial around these parts :-) :-)

Has there ever been a club let down by foreign investers? I suppose Blackpool are the only smash and grab club. Bournemouth could be described as a success story for stability but what about Leicester City? If there was ever a club/situation you'd want to copy then that's the one.

Would I like this to happen to Rotherham United? You bet I would! Everyone who has been part of the set up of the club would eventually change as new people would be brought in to replace or help as the club grew but they would anyway.

The fear isn't the development of the club, ground or team. It's the fear of the free fall of the club if they were to leave one day.
If a billionair is going to buy the club he'll be in billionair circles thus Barnsley won't be dropped! They'll be resold at worse!

I say get behind it! Thank everyone for getting you to the point your at and enjoy the ride. Afterall we as supporters have no say in what happens anyway!
    Good post frog .

It's the fear of change and the unknown isn't it ? Just like yourselves we've always had local people running the club , we've had just like yourselves a local rat in charge with Peter Doyle who was our Booth , we've had Risdale too who spent an entire season's budget in a fortnight , no shyte sherlock given his previous at Leeds .

If I'm reading the chinese right we won't see £20 million pound footballers but we hope to keep the likes of Connor Hourihane , Marc Roberts and Sam Winnall with the odd sale of Alfie Mawson to the PL if you like .

The fans wont just stand there and do nowt if we suspect ulterior motives I can tell you that , they've picked the wrong club if their motives aren't genuine , this club means too much to too many people and the folk of this town won't stand for it , Doyle and Risdale bailed out when the heat got too much .

Fingers crossed that a new exciting era is upon us , so pyssed off with selling our players frog and it's time we saw some of these lads taking us places instead of at other clubs .
