Agreed, very well put - my thoughts exactly.
Plans sometimes go wrong but at least you can see where we are aiming.
Its also reassuring that whilst it doesn't guarantee that SD will stay , it does show his investment both mentally and ethically.

Donz, re your thoughts on our CBs, or more precisely lack of cover for them. It's worth pointing out, imo, that in 3 of our last 6 PL games (50% of them) we've had to play without our two first choice CBs. Yet we seem to be going into this season assuming/hoping that won't happen again.
Or Dyche is happy to play Long and Taylor together, well best of luck with that, but it seems a bit risky to me.
A good read this thread, some good points and reasons made by all, I'd have to side with the above one though.
We have discarded:
Barton
Darikwa
Robinson
Flannagan
Bamford
Keane
Gray
Boyd
Kite
Hennings
Brought in:
Wells
Woods
Walters
Taylor
Cork
Legzdins
Bardsley
Cork and maybe to be seen Wood seem the only one's that improve our team, the rest for me are bit part players filling in.
Still doesn't address the hole left by Keane, some would argue Tarky was brought in for Keane, others say he was a replacement for Duff, Whichever way you look at it, it was good hindsight by BFC, so why was another replacement not brought in in this window ? Good hindsight followed by a bad lack of it ? you can say don't worry Long and Anderson are covering, which does not make me feel any easier.
Looking back on Garlick's words saying we will spend more than we did last window, Well if you look at the outgoings and the incomings he's hardly touched the Millions we have coming in in revenue.
So for me not a good window, again some may say there is always January, Come January we could be (hopefully not) on our @rse and trying to survive, no, we needed more quality players this window, not trying to wing it again to the next point.
....a case of doing - just enough Alto - nothing oustanding....we remain vunerable and aren't likely to overwhelm - so "perhaps" the idea is to focus play toward the defensive - we'll just flood men into and around the box - let teams come at us....and hope to poach goals (Wood) on the break.

I posted many times during the window that I hoped an experienced central defender, ready to start, would arrive . It hasn't happened so I have tried to understand it from Dyche's prospective. I agree potential injury makes it's a risk but is it any more worrying than Heaton getting injured which hasn't been mentioned.
I would argue that Tom getting injured would be far more damaging judging from the performances that I have seen from Pope. Yet I haven't read anyone calling a better back up keeper.

Other than our vulnerability in central defence if Mee and/or Tarkowski get injured/suspended/lose form, I am quite happy.
Wells may surprisingly prove to be a key signing - once he is match fit (November?)
Hopefully we will get the Celtic defender in in January - once they are out of the Champions League.
I have no worries about Nick Pope steeping into the breach if needed. He is a very capable keeper and, although he has only played in cup matches for the Clarets up to now, he has only conceded 1 goal (in his first game) in 450 minutes of football.
Strangely enough, he got injured just before the Lincoln game last season and Tom took over at relatively short notice --look what happened!![]()
