It's been investigated, Yak. As Grist points out, the statement yesterday follows criticism of Wiltshire Police for spending so much money doing so.

The statement yesterday - that there would have been grounds to interview him under caution - is legally meaningless. It simply indicates that there would have been reasonable grounds to suspect, which would be the case simply because credible (i.e. not inherently unbelievable) allegations had been made

As I said earlier, this is a lose-lose situation where both Heath's family and the alleged victims will be denied the 'closure' that a court case would bring.

Had this been a case where an allegation had been made about an 'ordinary' member of the public, the police would have said 'sorry there's nowt we can do'. What we are going to see now are people ignoring the principle of 'innocent until proven guilty' for political purposes.

    Take your point Kerr

Still wouldn’t be amazed to find out about some sort of cover up when it was allegedly going on though.

As for political I’m probably the least political person on here no affinity to any party I think all politicians are liars.

Well kerravon it didnt stop people condemming Saville and he was dead too, didnt they dig him up from his grave as well,so whats the difference. We need to know whats going on or there will be calls of a cover up,they cant all be telling lies.Surely because these things are investigated it will encourage others to come forward and even if we cant prove what happened we can be aware that its going on

I know you are not a political animal, Yak and no criticism of your position was intended.

If it is said that he abused children whilst in office then I would have thought it, perhaps, surprising if the police with responsibility for protecting him would not have had an inkling. That cuts both ways from an evidential point of view. It will be seized upon as evidence of a cover up by those people predisposed to believe the allegations despite having no idea what the actual evidence of abuse I, but it could also be said that it us unlikely that a group of officers would remain quiet.

The allegations against Heath have been investigated. That was the point of the press conference yesterday with Wiltshire Police - who have been criticised for the cost of doing so and fear the fate of The Met which had to pay compensation to the family of Leon Brittan - saying that they would have interviewed Heath under caution had he been alive.

There must've been something that was going on back then, and in westminster in general, there's far too many allegations, stories, whispers regarding *****philia to ignore, as i suspect the powers that be have been doing for years (where have we heard that before?)

In my mind if something so horrible was/is ging on we should be putting everything in to get to the real truth of it, regardless of how long ago it was, not only for the victims but for the country as a whole to see really was going on.

True and there's whispers going off now about existing MPs.

One of them has been a sitting MP for decades now.

Bit they remain whispers because nobody wants to risk being sued if they can't categorically prove it or get full support from the police.

Sounds like it was a daily routine with the higher powers and who would the victims have been able to turn to?
