Cummings is like purrington. As I understand it.. They both need to do more to show they warrant a place in the starting 11.
Cummings isn't bothered. He's coming to the end of his career, He knows he's not going to get a new contract in the summer so just collecting a wage till then.
Purrington though is at the start of his career. He's under a long contract with us and if injury didn't take him out of the team maybe things would be different.. Saturday he had so much room he never exploited it. As one of the backroom staff said. He needs to start taking up the slack and start doing more for the shirt
All players that are dropped or injured should be training and coached hard hoping it'll make him be ready to take his chance when it comes. On the other hand if a chance does come when he should be automatic replacement for the injured or suspended player. If he is over looked then he's going to be demorilised regardless. The management have done this to both full back replacements.
It's part of the game. The player either sulk and just sit in the stand, arms folded like Cummings is doing. And as purrington was doing Or they try that bit harder and give it there all..
think the Ike at left back could have done purrington some good and gave him that kick up the Harris.... Plus mattock will be out for 3/4 week. Purrington should be thinking, right there's a chance of playing in the playoffs/Wembley if I give 100%.. that should be enough to keep mattock out the team...
Plus pencil purrington in for next year
Even when Purrington was on the bench, it seemed to have the effect of improving Mattock's concentration. We need the same sort of competition for the right back position too.
If Purrington is playing well he should keep the shirt. However, is he good enough and, if not, will he improve enough if he gets a bit of a run in the team?
Also it seems as though the manager and coaching staff are very unsure about him so I imagine Mattock may be straight back in the team as soon as he's recovered from his injury.
