Can I just check that you understand that animals reared for meat are fed on plants? In the main they are generally reared on grass or grain (pigs are omnivorous and their diet may include animal proteins).
If a new Dutch Elm Disease wipes out plants, being a meat eater isn't going to help you very much.
You'd think he'd understand with a name like that
(Sorry for the essay) I think with any innovation it takes some early adopters to show the way - and crucially show that it doesn’t have any extra net cost. So well done them for taking the plunge. That goes for the energy efficiency industry too - I can’t see any losses from reducing our ghg emissions and I hope the UK and its Givernment can brave and can take the opportunity to have a good strong industry in developing and producing these technologies as they get more popular - some really good jobs to be created and better to do it proactively than be trying to catch up wih new skills when oil and gas starts to naturally decline. Sadly I think we are already well behind China in solar products judging by what I’ve seen this week.
(As I’m in China at the mo so can’t get youtube - not sure why they’ve not blocked this site too haha - but assume the link is about Forest Green).
I’m now vegan where possible - and that’s 99% of the time even when eating out. No hot vegan food at football matches though so would love us to start selling a meat and dairy free pie.
In answer to some other questions, there are lots of types of vegan - probably most wouldn’t like palm oil or gm crops but I wouldn’t say all. And they certainly don’t all bang on about it all the time - my girlfriend has been vegan for yonks and can’t stand it when she’s with people and that’s all they talk about.
Also - vegans aren’t perfect people and don’t claim to be, hypocritical like all of us and don’t have all the answers. Not all are preachy or self righteous. But there are some things I reckon all of us would get on with - ie testing cosmetics on animals. I didn’t know companies still did that but it’s not always easy to find products that haven’t been.
I think you should concentrate on the word "liberal", which is often defined as a willingness to accept behaviour or opinions different from one's own. If you do accept this as a reasonable definition and God knows, I do not take that as a given, then "hysterically respond to liberal things" is you and GF to a tee.
BSE
A British and Irish inquiry into BSE concluded the epizootic was caused by cattle, which are normally herbivores, being fed the remains of other cattle in the form of meat and bone meal (MBM), a protein supplement in concentrated feeds Since dairy calves are generally fed concentrated feed after they are weaned, they usually develop this disease more often than beef cattle.
Remember this Kerr?
For some reason the liberal part of me has an overwhelming desire to tell everybody I meet that I'm an omnivore.
