No bug ger financed our 3 new stands , office's , changing rooms , brand new training facilities , academy and indoor complex , we paid for it ourselves .

You'd still be at the DVS without Tony Stewart because you didn't have the clout to fund anything yourselves .

I didn't see too much progress rebuilding Millmoor either .

Looking forward to the new season as ever brin thanks .
Sorry Animal, but surely The Premier League paid for some of those stands with parachute payments, which although nowhere near what they are today, were very significant at the time. Football is about ifs, buts and only, and the big difference was that the Tykes retained 2nd tier football after promotion in 1981, whereas we were relegated after two seasons and also we were owned by someone who at the time spent money that he had not got. There but for fortune.........

Yep at that stage (80/81 ish)I would say Millers/ Barnsley had very similar fan bases, Our relegation after a couple of years meant we couldnt maintain it. What made it worse is that we had the second worse manager in our history ie george Kerr who drove fans away even more, Millers fans knew we werent gonna get back quickly to the second tier, Barnsley to their credir went from strength to strength culminating in their Prem appearance. Their fan based steadily improved. Even though they have dropped down this season their fans are still full of optimism hence the 9000 STs. If they had taken on board somebody like Stubbsy as manager when they went down last year I doubt they would have held on to all those ST holders.

The sale of Ashley Ward in 1999' for £4.5m paid for the North Stand ( away )

The East Stand was funded from the sale of Carl Tiler to Forest and Steve Agnew to Blackburn Rovers in 1991.

The South Stand built in 1995 was funded by the sale of Gerry Taggart to Leicester .

We did receive some grants which were available at the time for the East and South stands .

The academy , training ground and indoor complex cost £6m and were funded from PL revenue .

Look guys , apologies for the tone on this thread , I'm a little raw on all things BFC after the events of the last 18 months .

Cost this club a massive amount of money to pay Patrick Cryne back plus a large return and our performances on the field reflect that .

Stuck back in league one after we had a really good young promising side coming together , fecking stinks lads what we've had to stomach .

Once again please accept my sincere apologies for the tone .

Animal, your statement sounds like we spent 33 mill on players that’s where your facts don’t stand up or make sense. We simply had to move due to the Booths demands.

Imagine if we stayed at Millmoor and spent day 25 mill on players, we’d be well established in the Championship now.

If I didn’t know any better I sense sour grapes as to where we are next season and where you’re lot will be.

Bang on Brin, theres a real bitterness in his posts.

    Animal, its quite simple:

    (A) when praising the Millers please resist the temptation to immediately temper with a veiled condesend.

( dont feel the need to bring barnsley into every topic (this thread excepted as it is indeed relevant of course)

    (C) please just have a second and realise were old hat at the championship so dont need the wise old sage advice on what awaits us.

    Cheers,

    Grumps.

Ps Animal, youll get little sympathy from us millers. If you think youve had it bad, just spare a thought and as roly says look how our paths diverged after you finished second to us in 80/81.

We may have parted company in 1982/83 but the period in the old second division for ourselves wasn't exactly great for the next 13 years .

The miners strike hit the club hard and gates dropped to 5k , it was only by selling David Hirst in 1986 that we remained in business .

Everything was a struggle in those days , we flirted with the play offs once or twice but struggled to survive for the majority of it .

I'm not bitter towards yourselves I'm bitter about the events of the last 18 months at my club .

If it comes across that way then that's not my intention .

I'll take on board the points raised about how I come across sometimes .

Fecking hell I aint perfect like Kerr !!!

Don’t like to pee on yer parade animal me owd squire, but your east stand was mostly built by grants from various organisations that came about after the taylor report.

I did mention in an earlier post that we also received grants towards two of the stands but certainly not the whole funding .

Whilst we're being honest, the miners strike thing grinds my gears also. You speak as though it was a barnsley issue. Don't forget the strike started in cortonwood - rotherham. The strike is infamous for orgreave - rotherham. But, the big thing about the sob story is not only did rotherham lose its mines (yes we had lots too you know), we also saw the dessimation of our steel industry four years earlier. You are aware of the steelworkers strike of 1980 I presume?

Rotherham felt the double whammy, but do we whinge and tell the world, and blame it for all our woes? No, we get the feck on with it!!!
