Just checked the odds again. Can't remember seeing Gary McAllister in there before but he is now 22/1, still an outsider but he was quite strongly linked with us when Hardy was looking for his first manager.

His win ratio isn't superb but it isn't the be all and end all it depends on who you manage for example Ardley win rate is only 33% but you could argue some of it is in league one and he is at a small club resource wise.

If we want a manager with 45-50% win rate we would need to take a real chance on a non league manager like Lincoln did with Cowley but they were non league at the time.

Not a dig at you Smiffy like I say not be my number one choice but if it is him then we have to back him.

***y football is fine if you have ***y footballers. Yard dogs win nothing and ***y footballers cost money.

I'd rather give a young and hungry coach like Kewell a go than some journeyman who has been around the block. He obviously has something in his locker to attract interest. I'd approach this appointment with an open mind.

If the person hasn’t worked out why Crawley might have a fairly poor win rate in this league, if they can’t work out what sort of manager a club like Notts can realistically expect to attract, and if they think they know more than AH about getting a new manager in then yes, I do think they’re stupid.

Well yes of course, to a degree, hardly the stuff that dreams are made of though eh?

Is it that people have got strong feelings against him, or just that they don't have strong feelings in favour of him?

The bookies made him favourite pretty much out of the blue, and in club management terms he's a baby really, similar to Nolan, who also seemed to be a fairly random appointment at the time, whatever you think of his record since.

Again like Nolan, there's no real Notts connection with Kewell (if that matters, probably not) and he hasn't really got enough on his record to judge his ability one way or another. He's done fairly well keeping Crawley's heads above water on a shoestring, but not for all that long.

If he arrives I'll certainly give him a chance. I've got no reason to dislike him personally or to conclude that he's not a potentially good manager. His pedigree as a player was certainly impressive. I don't think he would get the Fullarton treatment, because the situation at the club is different, but it could turn that way quite quickly if his early results were poor. I doubt he would get the patience or honeymoon period that a manager with a good and proven track record would expect.

I suspect Kewell's initial reception would actually be one of bemusement rather than enthusiasm or hostility.

I will too. But if we're not 3-0 up at half time in his first game, only durham will be in front of me in the queue demanding his dismissal.
