Mark Crossley could only work with what he had at his disposal. Fitz isn't good enough neither were Collin or Schofield. Crossley was a very good keeper in his day and I have no doubt he is a good coach. It's irrelevant that he played for Forest. Chettle on the other hand has found his level IMO at Basford, mind you it will be a cracking local derby soon.
I don't think we'd have been relegated had Adam Collin stayed personally, he was much more dominant on crosses than Fitz or Schofield, despite some people getting upset that he liked to punch it instead of catch it.
The vast majority of goals we conceded in the first half of the season were from teams' entire game plans being to just get crosses into our box because they knew it was a huge weakness, they never needed to do anything else to beat us. Had that not been such a big weakness teams would have played us in entirely different ways and different results would have happened, whether positive or bad but they couldn't have been much worse. We looked worse at defending crosses due to the sheer amount of them that we faced because teams quickly recognised it as our weakness.
Hardly a surprise that the Club would let as many back room staff go as possible. Do you prefer a goal keeping coach, or a goal keeper? The first priority has to be fielding a team. We could have the best back room staff in none league, and still get relegated again. Notts need to rebuild - on the pitch, before spending money anywhere else.
So your idea of improvement from a coaching point of view is that Fitz actually did what he was employed to do for a couple of matches and then regressed back to producing below par performances. And for this you gave the credit to Crossley. I'm not sure I understand that logic.
The logic would be that they worked on things in training and Fitz started performing better for a while until he had an absolute mare and his confidence was completely shot again.
Alternatively maybe Fitz is a world beater but Crossley was holding him down until he started ignoring him for a month or two and played well, then was forced to listen to Crossley and was sh*t again...
Going in to next season without a Goalkeeping coach would be a huge step backwards imo, the idea that teams at our level don't need one is crazy and we'd do well to find another one as qualified/experienced as Mark Crossley is, I guess we'll find out.
I'd imagine a big part of him leaving will be because he was probably on a decent wage as he was originally hired as an Assistant manager on a 3 year deal and pretty much said that he's got a contract, he'll see it out, meaning while he was getting paid he'd be going nowhere, which is fair enough, most people think he'll be on his way to Chesterfield to link back up with Sheridan.
I can't argue with your point that going into next season without a goalkeeping coach would be a huge step backwards DF22. My thoughts are that we have had a number of 'keepers under Crossley's tutelage but none of them seemed to improve on their weaknesses, which would be the minimum that I would expect working under an experienced goalkeeping coach.
Maybe it's just my pessimism brought on by last seasons debacle that caused me to argue my point as tbh I don't know Mark Crossley personally and he may be a top class coach. I just think that a total clear out of the old guard wouldn't be a bad thing. Fresh eyes and all that. One thing that I do know is that my rationale has nothing to do with MC's previous employer. If someone is prepared to put 100% effort into the black and white shirt then they will always have my backing, no matter what their origins are.

Should have gone months and months ago. Singularly unimpressive.
He will probably end up at Chesterfield.
Even if we wanted to keep him we cant as we are not able to offer any contracts out.
Only one person can answer that question but he is saying very little.
