The managers at the BBC probably celebrated Thatcher's defeat because she was always threatening to abolish the tv licence fee, and their jobs would be under threat. The ruling class has it's divisions. For some on here not being openly ***ist or racist equates with being "left wing". It isn't, particularly - its just the norm for most people, except for the usual suspects on here, obviously. Even the Tory party now pays lip service to those general guidelines when making public statements. Are they left wing too?

    They're identity politics "issues."

The BBC not only choose which stories to cover (the ones that fit their agenda)., they also "shape" the news to fit their agenda.

You should have a look at some of the foreign news channels to see the news they they ignore that doesn't fit their agenda, you're not getting a full picture of what's happening in the world.

You actually think that, for example, bald black women being ***ually harassed is a serious issue and a proper news story?

Oh poor Fire. Must be so tiring living in your head.

The BBC simply, by the definition of us all paying licence fees, are bound to provide stories and news that relate to the different sections of the UK that pay into their existence. Its so not a conspiracy, its an obligation. LGBTs and other subgroups all have to pay the license fee (if they want to watch TV) and in return, the BBC has to make every effort to represent these communities and groups within their content. That's all it is.

My experience of LGBT+_ community (and having worked in TV and entertainment I know/have known quite a few) is that they tend (generally speaking) to be quite apolitical. None that I know are actively involved with politics and find it boring. None that I am in touch with will be able to tell you what Marx's theories were. And whilst most still carry the scars of having to grow up in a body that is different from what their families and societies expected, and in many cases, wanted (LGBT and especially trans people are hugely susceptible to mental illness and suicide), the vast majority I have known are quite happy and unquestioning within the current capitalist structure.

Like that American female footballer who is just as arrogant as Trump in her own way but can't see it?

I've read Gay Times, Attitude, the Pink Paper, Diva and they are/ were all relentlessly left-wing with no tolerance at all for any gay people who might not be.

Agree Mike. To not be racist, ***ist, Islamophobic, homophobic etc is not a left wing trait necessarily. It is just a sign that you are reasonable and tolerant human being. There are a lot of posters on here who are probably not left wing per se but would never be any of those things.
