He's been trying his best to worm out of slagging Newcastle off.
He's trying to twist what he said around but stuttering his way through it.

When asked why he hated it at Newcastle, he said he didn't just hate it at Newcastle, he hated it at Stoke....and then with a pause and a bit of a stutter, he said " and Man Utd"...

You made your bed Michael and now you have to lie in it.
He's one hell of a smug git.
Making out going to Newcastle as being some kind of massive step down and believing he's better than that but realising Liverpool didn't adore him as much as he thought, so basically took the massive wage.

That's because there is nothing interesting about the little runt to talk about.

Even less now than there was in the second half of his career.

I'll tell you what puzzles me in a way. Why Michael Owen was made captain.

Have we been skewed in our memories of Owen?

However, not only was he made captain under one manager, he was made and kept on as captain under Allardyce and Keegan and then by Shearer....I think...not sure if any other had made him captain for any spell..
Michael Owen also went through 9 managers (i think) in his spell at Newcastle. Mental or what?

I think we've been dealt a massive feast of dislike in between a lot of like at the times he was here and doing the business to basically, not.
To be made captain and keep it, something had to be right in many ways at certain points.

Are we missing a trick here or what?

I'll simply play devils advocate on this.
It's interesting looking and reading back on past snippets. It gives much more perspective on how Owen's mind worked and how he is a mixture of arrogant and possibly honest to the point of alienation.

I don't particularly like the person for certain ways he seemed to conduct himself at the club and the way he comes across at times...but here we are at a point where we have to rely on our memory banks to actually piece it all together.

The crux of the matter is simple. Why would he be kept on as captain if he was as bad as is being made out?

Manager Kevin Keegan was so impressed with the way the 28-year-old led the team last season that he has no qualms about asking him to continue this time around, despite only having 12 months left on his current deal.
He said: "Yes, Michael's my captain. He has really impressed everybody.

"He leads by example, and that's a good way to lead. He says: 'I'll work hard, so you work hard'.

"He's not scared to give his opinion when he's right, and he's not scared to say what he feels.

"He's a tremendous professional and he trains properly every day."

When you dig deeper, things do take on a different perspective regardless of whether the person involved is liked or disliked....in my opinion, anyway.

Not at all. Little **** had 12 months left on his contract, nobody wanted to pay money for him, Keegan was simply being professional and trying to ensure Owen didn't put even less effort than he currently was.

There is often more importance put on the title of captain than the role entoles. It's important to have leaders in the dressing room, they don't have to have an official title...Carroll is apparently a current example...some times the title is given to appease an ego...a la Owen...taking it away causes more problems than it solves.
