I don't get it either. He moves the ball on quickly, almost every time to a Utd shirt. If it goes sideways, it's because he has no options up front. His manner of play makes him look slow but he's just super composed and relaxed when on & distributing the ball.
The two of them were excellent together yesterday. Harkes had a better game alongside Powers than I think he has ever had alongside Butcher. He played with a freedom yesterday. Butcher is good but he ain't no Paul Scholes. I think some people get carried away as to how good Butcher actually is. He holds the team together very well at this level, is physical, but he's limited in ability imo. This showed up big time vs Hibs.

Powers and Butcher playing along side each other in midfield was a major contributor.

Powers and Harkes both played well together yesterday and I don't think Powers slowed down play at all during the match but has been guilty of dwelling on the ball in few games but definitely not yesterday.

Strange that anyone didnt see the good that Powers did yesterday. Only player ive seen at Tannadice in a very long time that shows, looks, traps, passes and usually to the right player. Would love to see what he could do with a pair of wingers that he could have faith in to take the ball past the defence.

Didnt notice prior to yesterday at how he was in a challenge, and he ticked that off a few times with a few 50/50 sliders that he came out on top of.

I’ve been critical of powers but I was the first to praise him yesterday

Powers was decent but I thought Harkes was better.
When Butcher returns we'll have an abundance of defensive mids.
But we're missing a playmaker, a defence splitter, a number 10, call it what you will.
To be fair tho, so are most teams, they're like hens' teeth.
Scott Fraser had a go at it a couple of seasons back when the fans weren't boo-ing him.
