Booked a cottage in Kent for June, tried to cancel as soon as the virus threat became a serious one , 3 weeks ago , the company Cottages.com
wanted half the full amount of the cost of the holiday even though in their terms and conditions it states that if you do cancel up to 70 days before travelling then the deposit is non returnable which we were prepared to accept. Contact with the company is non existent except for emails from them telling me my holiday is getting close so pay the balance. TrustPilot reviews is swamped with people who can't get a refund, the stock answer from the company is wait and re-book your holiday next year, one of the reviewers has been asked to pay £360 extra next year at an alternative cottage. Regarding biting the bullet and being in it all together, the parent company apparently made £20.000.000 profit last year . Could someone sort link out please?

It's a mess everywhere. I own a couple of timeshares and there's a meltdown going on there with people trying to cancel...etc. I don't even know how people with fixed weeks are coping when the travel restrictions prevent them getting there and even if they could their resorts have had to close. Sad but inevitable that there are going to be monetary losses as companies go under.

    Hi Lincs,
You probably know already but there’s a petition about this company on Change.org.
Sign it if you haven’t already.
Shocking way to treat the paying public by the sounds of it.

Looks like they are called Vacation Rentals (UK) Ltd - company number 00965389. Youre right about the £20m profit too.

Hiya Casper, hope you and yours are all ok. I saw a mention to the petition but as of yet I cant find on Change.org. will have another go later . The company had good reviews until the virus, I know these are unprecendented times but other companies seem to be sorting stuff amicably . I know its small potatoes in the big picture but know its a principle thing and I wont let it go.
    Take care mate

Think there’s probably a reason they keep changing names

Cant understand them Wan, risking a previously good reputation whilst having the capital and assets to do the right thing

Lincs, be patient. They are just testing the water.

Sykes Cottages have announced something to help renters this evening. Cottages will follow suit.

Owners, cleaners etc. have overheads as well.

It’s all playing out. Hold what money you can and I’m sure the situation will improve. You’ll get most of it back.
