There's no 'unreasonable interpretation'. The whole text is there in black and white and was signed (and championed) by our government in January 2020.

Being a "sovereign nation" doesn't mean you get to violate agreements that you have wilfully entered into. I am a sovereign human being but if I suddenly decided I didn't need to pay off my credit card I might find there are consequences.

It sounds like our government intentionally negotiated in bad faith.

Imagine if the EU were the ones suddenly deciding they wanted to change parts of the agreement they signed off on.

    Absolutely John.

If what Jenkin is saying is true, and there is no reason to disbelieve him, it sounds like we never had any intention (or didnt think we needed to) honour the Withdrawal Agreement.* Looking at the Facebook, MM and Twitter response, it seems many Brexiteers dont see a problem with it.

Starting to think many see Brexit as a legitimate way of the UK going rogue on its international responsibilities. Hope its not the case.

Seems like Nancy Peloli isnt impressed....

“Whatever form it takes, Brexit cannot be allowed to imperil the Good Friday agreement, including the stability brought by the invisible and frictionless border between the Irish Republic and Northern Ireland.

“The UK must respect the Northern Ireland protocol as signed with the EU to ensure the free flow of goods across the border.

“If the UK violates that international treaty and Brexit undermines the Good Friday accord, there will be absolutely no chance of a US-UK trade agreement passing the Congress.”

The great champion of Law and Order, she was encouraging the antifa and BLM riots right up to the point that the chances of Biden getting elected as taken a nose dive (normal people dont like riots ) she is a joke.

Regardless of posturing and internal machinations, if this now leads to no deal I can’t see how this won’t end up with issues on the Northern Ireland border - not meaning troubles as before but a very difficult practical situation to sort customs and the like.

My fear has been for some time that the first six months at least will be a window for opportunists to get rubbish unsafe products into the UK and that they won’t be detected or caught. I’m working with manufacturers on this at the moment so it’s not a baseless concern.

Conversely, away from the media’s eye they have done a couple of u-turns on new product marking requirements because they were trying to being changes with timings that simply wouldn’t have been possible.

On the ‘international law’ issue, it just seems careless because although yes we have the ability to act independently, you can easily imagine Iran or another country using that in its own propaganda and using it against our citizens.

There’s a long way to go on this though and I hope it somehow gets sorted; maybe some of the big issues will do just in time but a lot of the details probably won’t be satisfactory.

She is also leader of the house of representatives and can block any trade deal Trump may negotiate with the UK.

It shows that even if the British government likes to think it can do what it wants, other governments we depend on have the same power to do what they want.
