I think you have inadvertently hit on the answer bill
It really depends on what your definition of successful is
Is it successful to have a good team on the park with at least some hope of football progression or a buy cheap & sell for a profit?

Could it be that football provides the perfect platform for financial skulduggery especially when clubs' dealings are more often than not cloaked in secrecy. That applied in the past & applies now
Try looking at the financial affairs of most clubs & see if you can work out by looking at the accounts where all the money goes
This country is a haven for tax irregularities whoever owns the club, & add to the poor scrutiny of football club's affairs coupled with pyss poor governance by those in charge of the nations No 1 sport

Can anyone recall the abuse John Dennis got when we went into Administration ? Some said it was ballax , he ( John Dennis ) has just bought a fleet of new Lorries , , there appears to be far too many loopholes in Football , some adhere to the guidlines , others don't and seemingly get away without being punished severly enough , it seem nobody can work our current owners out , it's a minefield , if they have done wrong ? I hope they get severly punished , we can't be knocking other clubs if ? We are guilty of a wrong doing , it won't bother that lot though , it's us the Fans that will be left with, serves you right comments , Cheats found out comments etc , These Owners need to either show up and show progress or leave , which I'm hoping they do , It's not our Club anymore and it never will be as long as the Current owners are here , they care for nobody only themselves

John Dennis spendin money by lorrylooad!

Wiv always bin a cynical lot Roma. We're all guilty in some form of it I'm sure. Whoever the owner is he gets stick, twas ever thus.

Thing is wi JD, a dunt entirely blame him for administration, it worra unfortunate television deal collapse. I honestly think the fundamental mistake he med wo appointing John Hendrie. It were a knee jerk reaction to Wilson's departure in my opinion. He shudda gone wi Bassett or a similarly experienced manager to get us back up at the first time of asking. That squad shudda pyssed promotion. We wasted a valuable year theear.

Av nowt against John Hendrie at all, brilliant player for us but he wo the wrong man for the job and he had more money to spend than any of his predecessors. Tha can't gu from chief dressing room pillacker and prankster to gaffer. He wo nivver gonna get the necessary respect.

Tha thinks back to that week when we beat Hudders 7-1 and Sunderland away wi 10 men, Sunderland ran away wi the league that season anorl. We wo obviously well capable but them players let Hendrie darn in my opinion. Shame.

A remember a few "fans" surrounded John Dennis's car in Edgley Park car park, Stockpooart chanting--

    "Iz fat, iz rarnd,
    Iz nivva spent a parnd,
    John Dennis, John Dennis"

    Unfair.
