The trickle down effect of Premiership teams stockpiling talent also has an impact on lower league teams who then forego using their own talent in place of 'cheap' loanees. For example Henderson at Man Utd has just made his senior debut there (in a Mickey Mouse Cup) over 5 years after signing for them. In the meantime he's displaced others at Grimsby, Stockport, Shrewsbury and Sheff Utd whilst out on loan.

It’s a system they started a few seasons ago.

Trawl young talent, promise them millions then loan them out so other clubs do the “development” work. If one makes it into the big time then Chelsea get the pay off, the rest just womble off into lower clubs and leagues.

System seems to work for them and for specialist positions like goalies then it’s particularly strong.
