We went to my son’s in-laws today, so no cooking or washing up. Normally, though, I do most of the food shopping and all of the cooking, so I decide what we are having and how it is cooked.

To my delight my daughter cooked turkey but added joints of beef and gammon. Delicious.

I cooked the turkey this year. Forked the breast and thighs before basting inside and out with butter, olive oil, black pepper, oregano and thyme.

Draped bacon over the turkey and topped it off with the sausage and bacon fat from our early morning breakfast. Served with roasted veg', mashed potatoes, a savoury rice dish, cranberry sauce and gravy. Lovely stuff.

Today will be turkey left overs with a beef brisket slow cooked in red wine and gravy. Tomorrow it's back to healthy eating, weights and the punch bag.

Couldn't get any sprouts. I went to the greengrocers but were told 'we're out of Brussels'
