I remember when he joined the club, as many will. I wasn't certain about the appointment, those were days before the internet so there was very little debate except in the pubs etc about how he might get on and I was still a young ****ager at the time.

He walked down the road from Dens for his interview by all accounts. At the end of the interview I think it was Johnstone Grant that said to him "So Jim, if you get this job what things would you want, is there anything you would need to spend money on to improve the team?"

Quick as a flash Jim came back "Aye, a stopwatch. Your players aren't fit enough!"

Was just flicking through his book by Steve Finnan that I'd got for Christmas yesterday.

RIP JYM. Great memories for myself since I 1st stepped in Tannadice in 1977.

    Legend.

As you say, maybe the fans groups could ask the club to have an official commemoration day when the fans have been allowed back in no matter how long it takes.

Terrible news. This man was responsible for some of the happiest days of my life. As a child in the 60's could not dream of the success that was to become our club. The days with my mates at 100's of great victories thanks for them all. Thanks for scores of happy hangovers.

The best manager ever in the history of Scotland.. fact

In a year where i have been moved to tears after hearing some of the stories about what Jim did off the park, i am once again sitting with a tear in my eye about his passing, but also a smile on my face for all the memories.

Thank you Jim, and may you rest in peace!

The incredible fact is that United were a better team than Man City or Chelsea in Jim's days. It would've been a step back.
