Pavis took the blame for Notts ultimately crashing out of the top flight and ending up in tier 4 but Warnock lost the plot on the transfer market after we beat Brighton at Wembley, he wasted significant sums of money on players that would contribute a lot less than home growns or players we'd plucked from non-league (Paul Devlin and Rob Matthews).

Agana was the obvious turkey but what did Andy Williams (£115,000) bring to the table? Dryden (£250,000) apart from the goal over the river, was pretty hopeless. Kevin Wilson (£275,000) was largely a disappointment and ended up playing at right back IIRC, the loanees didn't work out (Farina, McCllelland) whilst players like Mark Smith (£70,000), Dijkstra(£150,000) Bob Catlin(£75,000), Robbie Turner(undisclosed), Dave Robinson (£300,000) and Rideout barely made an appearance before moving on or retiring. Yes Rideout made us some money but the sale ruined the relationship between chairman and manager and he didn't contribute much to our chances of survival, results weren't great when he was in the team.

The only post Brighton-win Warnock signing from a fellow Football League club that might be described as a reasonable success was David Smith(£150,000), who I didn't rate that highly but many apparently did. His best signing of all during that period other than Devlin turned out to be Shaun Murphy but, one single league appearance aside, Murphy didn't make it into the first team until after Warnock had left.

None of the above can overshadow the incredible rise to the top, but if we can take it as read that Pavis would have gone for an experienced replacement, I think it would have almost certainly worked out better for us in the long run if Warnock had accepted the job at Chelsea.

He's certainly up there. Has a lot of conviction in what he feels is right and it's unusual for someone to come out and say how much they dislike someone associated with the game.

Great comments first of all. Agana was a major turkey, saw him play many times and he became a joke player. In these modern times he would have lasted not a long time! Drydens equaliser gainst forest is surely worth a bit even if I had to climb over piss stained terraces to appreciate it. Kevin Wilson was an odd one and was largely played out of position. As for the other fees well blow me down.

Jean Marc Bosman? Don't think we were interested in him or he would make you much money.

If you think you can't make money developing and selling youngsters after the Bosman ruling you've definitely had too much sun.

As for that list of signings, I remember ever single one but had forgotten they were all signed around the same time and by Warnock.

What a waste of money on transfer fees. Miss after Miss after Miss with only a couple of Hits in that lot.

They were not all a miss. Many played very well under Mick Walker.

Agana was a real enigma I think. He came to us with a 1 goal in 3 games record for Sheffield United. For us that dropped to 1 in 10. He was part of a great partnership with Brian Deane. I know that people say we should have signed him, but it's worth nothing that his record went from just over 1 goal in 2 games for Sheff United to 1 in 5 after he left. Perhaps we needed to sign both.

For a 'major turkey' and a joke player he played 145 games for us.

Not all were but the clear majority in my eyes.

What did you mean by BOSMAN?
