Somebody told me yesterday that Wilder has been offered the job but with a paltry salary and little or no transfer money other than what comes from player sales. Who knows but that does sound like Albion!

In a nutshell what you are saying 123 is - Wilder needed glasses to have signed Burke as he's absolute s hite! That's the worrying bit as you say - player judgement! Then again you could say Robinson although better than Burke in my opinion is only a championship player as goes missing far too frequently.

I was delighted we got rid of Burke, and I couldn't believe a premiership manager would want him and play him.
Sheff Utd were always going to struggle with him up front. They signed an inferior Keeper than the one they had previously for £20m and a youth player from Liverpool for £25m. And a couple of full backs from Derby for a few million. They actually made our summer recruitment look pretty good.
Having said that, I do think he gets the most out of players, and there did seem to be problems behind the scenes at Sheff Utd last season. So overall I think he'd do okay, but him and Dowling in charge of recruitment is a big area of concern.
The last sentence sums up the worry for me this appointment could be. Was it a one season wonder with Sheffield Utd too?
Lampard could attract better players perhaps and he was good at Chelsea at developing their youngsters! Could he persuade Chelsea to loan Gallagher to us again? Starting to side towards Lampard over Wilder and he can’t afford to cock up his next job for his CV.
His overall record is as good as it gets, last season was a one off in his career.
He's got a lot more experience than Lampard, but you're right in that Lampard could probably attract better players.
There's pros and cons to both, I won't be too disappointed with either. I would be pretty disappointed if it was someone like Wagner, Terry, McInnes or Ismael.
For me the biggest issue we face is recruitment rather than who gets the job as Manager. I may be wrong but I thought Big Sam seemed to be more influential in getting deals done rather than leaving it to Dowling which is a disaster.
Whoever comes in needs to be able to get deals done within the tight financial constraints we have.
Totally agree Yarm! For me Lampard would have a better judgement than Wilder over player recruitment and he does like to progress the youngsters - look at Mason Mount who now a top class player!
Dowling should be no where near player recruitment and quite honestly he should do one! Most useless obnoxious knob going!
