Thread: Afghanistan - why did we bother?

  1. #21
    Thanks WLust-Bitter Lake.

You are exactly right of course-in we go with no plan (the Yanks approach is a bit like the films they make Ramboish-shoot the place up, open a Macdonalds ;western culture then exit quickly-took them almost 20 years to realise it wouldn't work.
As on MP (ex military said today) SAIGON 2 happening all over again!

Now our government is saying that some of the Afghans who supported the British army will be left behind.
    Utterly shameful.

Well, well, well....it seems to have been removed from Netflix.

If you get any conspiracy theories, watch The Great Hack on Netflix which is still there....for now. Scary stuff.

Bitter Lake is still on Youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRbq63r7rys

Twenty years ago when the Taliban were last in power in Afghanistan they invited in their Al-Qaeda chums who plotted to hijack passenger planes and turn them into flying bombs. Having returned to de facto power I am sure the Taliban will be exporting terror to the West again. Does a leopard change its spots? Perhaps Biden having withdrawn the US from Afghanistan in a shambolic manner will finally reveal everything the Americans know about the Saudi involvement in the 2001 attacks. This coming September will be the 20th anniversary of that horror and it is high time the truth was told or will it just stay locked in a White House drawer never to see the light of day?

U.S. President Joe Biden, who said that "300,000 national troops are well equipped to stand up to 75,000 Taliban militants," There is a difference between them both. ''The Taliban fight because it's their belief, for the US, or any other western military force,(not including Israel! For Israel its their existence!) It's their job!

Anyone seeking to understand what will now happen to Afghanistan - and probably Iraq in the near future - should take a look at the Gaza Strip as a test case. The images of Taliban militants marching victoriously through the streets of Kabul will only whet the appetites of their 'brethren', wherever they may be. To them the situation will be, if they can bring American's the worlds most successful nation to its knees??? Oy vey's mir ,a groyse k'shia, oy vey!

With the Taliban defeating the Soviet Union and now the U.S., the implicit conclusion is that without Israel's security control, Ramallah - the West Bank seat of power for the Palestinian Authority - could fall to Hamas much faster than what Kabul fell.

All nations of the West suffered complete strategic blindness to the dangers of the Taliban and Israel must take care that it does not catch it too. ( oy vey! )

It's a lesson for Israel balan, not that they need to learn it, they understand it very well, never to take a backward step when dealing with Hamas, Hezbollah, Iran or Syria.

I can't help smiling though, every day for four years I heard on the BBC, read in the Grauniad, from Labour and LibDem politicians, often Tories as well, and on every social media platform, chat show hosts, Lefty comedians, even some posters on this msgboard, how Donald Trump was making a laughing stock of America.

    Aye, sure he was.
