The 'Ladapo Situation' is really strange. When he asked for a transfer I think everyone rightly assumed he had another club lined up.Obviously not.Paul Warne has gone on record and said the most disappointing aspect of it all is that it got leaked because it is quite common at every club around transfer window time and that if people knew the reasoning behind it then they would understand and have sympathy for him. Then why drop him? A regular starter before all this and knocking in goals (missing a few as well btw!). To invoke the 1 year extention is sensible........he ain't going for nowt!
The 12 month options are to give the club a little more time for both club and players to sort out long term contracts.
One player isn't too far off signing a longer contract.
Makes sense to try and get a fee that's acceptable to TS or make Freddie Ladapo available for a loan deal start of next season.
No easy way out.
Angus sure he's out of contract end of this season.
What players have to realise is that goose that lays the golden egg doesn't always work out,
by signing for another club for more money.
Smith playing well in a settled team, family settled & kids have their school mates, but leaving
Rotherham would mean settling into another team, family moving perhaps, all depends which
part of the country they would move to.
Rotherham United, Michael Smith & his agent have to sit down & come to a agreement, which
benefits both Michael Smith & Rotherham United.
If you're 30 years old and out of contract, selling yourself to the highest bidder (within reason) is absolutely the right thing to do.
Someone will offer him a 3 year contract on good money. So what if it doesn't work out? If the salary is considerably higher than Rotherham will pay, it's a no brainer for him. That's the golden egg. it's reasonable to assume, this will be his last big contract.
He's travelled up and down the country to ply his trade. I don't think moving would phase him and if he doesn't want to move his family, there will be takers within a 60 minute commute anyway.
His only obligation is to his family.
Good luck to him. Hope he stays.
IF we go up then Warne needs to be asking Stewart what his budget is for the following season. Out of that it’s Warnes shout on what he pays who with the budget.
I’d be looking to pay that bit extra to Smith to retain his services as he’s clearly good enough for the Championship. Others can moan all they like. Warnes in charge and he sees fit what to pay who.
