I'm disappointed with the past couple of results obviously, but I'm nowhere near as depressed as I was a couple of years ago when it looked like the club might go out of business (again!). What we're talking about here is a dip in form on the pitch after what was previously a decent start, so we need to keep it in perspective.

That said, Ian Burchnall needs to realise (if he doesn't already) that the priority right now is to do whatever it takes to get some positive results, rather than slavishly trying to implement the style of play he would ideally like to see. We played some attractive football for 70 minutes yesterday, which is the longest sustained period of good play we've managed since the opening day of the season, but once Woking got the equaliser, they battered us into submission in the space of ten minutes with direct, effective tactics. Woking's players certainly didn't look tired after long periods of chasing the ball earlier in the game, in fact they looked fresher than us when it mattered most.

My advice to IB would be to put the UEFA coaching manual away in the drawer and take a more pragmatic approach, at least for a while, which means getting the ball out of our own half as quickly and as often as possible and maybe being willing to hit a few more direct balls to the centre forward or down the channels. We have good forward players who can do damage if we turn opponents and get running at them. The defence at present is short-handed and the midfield does look a bit lightweight, so adapt to the circumstances and bypass the midfield a bit more rather than trying to play through it all the time. This in turn will bring the defence under pressure less often.

At present I get the impression that Ian Burchnall is trying to write a football thesis when a simple short essay or even a few notes are sufficient to do well in this league.

... this should be renamed the spineless moaners thread.
What a miserable spineless bunch most of you are. It's clear that IB is trying to get the current squad to move the ball more quickly, following Mr Ardley's death by a thousand passes tenure. However, we all (should) recognise that adjustments in style of play do take time. (So called) supporter impatience is nothing new. It appears, thus far - and for the last couple of seasons - that IB may have to come to terms with the need for two roughty-toughty 6'6'' CB's instead of our current light-weight CB's who are not tall/strong enough to dominate; and a roughty-toughty CF to compliment KW and the other promising forwards who show pace. I'm sure that IB can see the problems; but you can't pluck the finished article out of fresh air. It's coach the best out of what you have; or buy new. COYP

Maybe it's the bad admin that is holding us back, dodgy filing, messy inbox, unread emails, piles of paper, no stapling.
It's soft. We need an admin animal, a beast in that office to start stapling stuff, use highlighters, correction fluid.
    Sort it Notts.

What kind of spine has he got on his ring binders? I think we need to go back to basics with a sturdy metal filing cabinet.

    True!

There have also been a fair few posters on this message board over the years who - usually in a huff - have felt the need to 'announce' to everybody that they are leaving NCM, which as well as sounding rather self-important and melodramatic, usually invites ridicule along the lines of 'remember to close the door on your way out'.

How things change! On the Weymouth prediction thread there were 41 predictions. Only 1 predicted a defeat.

Now we are spineless, gutless, players not good enough etc., etc.

Yes, yesterday was dreadful defeat, but no need for knee-jerk reactions. I can feel the 'Burchnall out' thread coming if we lose the next game.

You may be right, but it certainly won't come from me.

I think it's perfectly reasonable to express an opinion on what the manager could do to get some improved results, without calling for his head or claiming that everything he is doing is wrong, which it isn't.

The soiling charge is £50 lads.

Yesterday we were decent for 70 minutes missing possibly our best attacking player, club captain and first choice experienced goalkeeper. I’m not sure there are any sides at our level that would thrive given those circumstances.

We are Notts County, we move on.
