Morgan is a quality bloke with a stellar reputation for leadership.

I’d like someone to explain to me just how Silverwood got the managers job?

I’m a Yorkie and I know his history but as a player and since he retired he is a nonentity.

There has to be both a high level of respect AND a degree of fear of the captain and head coach, with England it’s all too “matey” once again and this needs to stop.

    Too many mates getting jobs.

Graham Thorpe was a terrific batsman but totally uninspiring in terms of his verbal ability and the way he engaged with the media etc.

I don’t see him as a good fit as batting coach.

Root is certainly our best batsman (N.B. Batsman, not batter) but I don’t see anyone else in the squad that stands out as captain material. We need a Mike Brearley type.

Money is killing Test Cricket, as well as the county game, because it is all being focused on the frightful 20/20 and the abomination that is the ‘Hundred’.
Agree with you regarding Foakes but I think that he is injured. I'm not sure on this point though.

The point is that Buttler has not been great behind the stumps for England and to be fair to him, he’s not a specialist wicketkeeper, Foakes is. Buttler’s batting hasn’t been that good and Foakes is ok, a specialist wk to go in at 7 or 8. I do believe that Foakes was injured but he isn’t now, although with no cricket played by him for ages it would be unfair to throw him in to an Ashes test at this stage. Next Summer, though, Foakes should be the England wk.

As for a new captain, I agree that Morgan is the right type of bloke but he is too ‘white ball’ oriented. No idea who!
