Another year of slight progress which was helped by the fact the league has 8 very poor teams this season, all of whom could have easily have found themselves going down. Times are difficult so credit where it's due that it could have been much much worse points-wise.

Football-wise we are poor to watch 90% of the time, bizarrely we tend to get worse if we take a lead.

Of all the teams outwith top 3 I actually think we have the easiest job to kick on next season and failure to do so will be down to negligence if we don't recruit players for the top end of the pitch. We are pretty solid, and seem to have a preferred system capable of putting points on the board.

Recruiting a player better than McNulty will be the easiest task in football this summer, if we fail to do so then heads should roll. It's also blatantly obvious we need creativity so let's focus on those 2. We already know we are solid at the back so dont need to go trying to find random 5th choice CH's

IMHO if we keep the majority of that team together and sign the players we are crying out for we will start as strong candidates for another top 6 finish next season as i think a few other clubs need much bigger changes.

Happy with a top 6 for United. Definite progress.
Football has not been great most of the time.
    Squad a fair bit unbalanced.

    But,

Pushing on for a shot at Europe. Excellent, well done.
    Excellent summary, agree entirely

Worst ever Premier league since its inception in 1975,Hearts have come up from the Championship and blew all bar the OF out of the water.humiliation awaits any team outside the top 3 in europe i'd bet the Bedsit on it.

Agree but it could be worse, look at the last 10 games of this lot:
    Hibs W1 D5
    Well W1 D5
    Don's W1 D4
    Fun W1 D4

We are where we deserve to be at this stage, no team below us have won more games, lost less games or conceded less goals than us.

The issue is clear, we've only scored more goals than the 3 teams at the bottom.
McNulty can run about all he likes but facts are he doesn't contribute, despite starting most games he has scored 2 goals, only 1 more than Appere and Robson. and he has provided 0 assists, shocking stats.
Thon Levitt doesn't do much better with just 1 assist.
For context McMullan has 7 assists.

No words needed for our final 3rd performers.

Add to that DFC are bottom and ST Johnstone are 2nd bottom which is very similar to where both ended up in 75/76 when 2 teams from 10 were automatically relegated.

Losing Jeando's energy in January is an under recognised issue for us. Missing Butch and Harkes today was a big loss. Agree we obviously need to improve, agree we need to bolster up front, agree pace is a huge issue for us but in the context of what we have had to do to try to balance the club somewhat, I think it is a huge achievement making top 6.

Would love us to play with some freedom now the pressure is off. Europe is one hell of a carrot to play for that I didn't think was possible before the season kicked off.

I would suggest the players and management team deserve a lot of credit for making top 6 this year. So tight a league it would have been easy to miss out.
    Great post!

Europe is indeed a massive carrot dangler. Circa £300K (second round) or £500K (third round) even if we do get papped out at the first time of asking. Possible full house at Tannadice which will also add to the coffers. I'll take either situation over playing the group stage of the Premier Sports Cup in near empty stadiums against your Keltys, Elgins or East Fifes earning next to nothing financially. European games are a great occasion for the fans. It would be something for us to massively look forward to at the start of the season.

Is it the Europa league or Europa conference league for 4th place?
