I used Kuoni when I traveled to Australia and was well pleased with the service and would use them again.

If I go to Europe I book it independently.

With more distant travel I like the safety net of a tour operator.

They served me well, we ended up with £700 of credits we otherwise wouldn’t have received I suspect.

Some feel there’s come back with a Tour Operator but in reality from working with the leader TUI for 25 years - there’s very little! We were very helpful though to the next of kin in the destination when their other half had to be repatriated back to the U.K. in the planes hold. Even then on one occasion when a number of our deceased customers ( coach crash ) were repatriated- sadly the corpses had on the incorrect identity bands causing huge distress.

I went into a Kuoni shop and enquired about their trips to Australia. Got an itinerary and a price from them and then costed the same holiday myself with individual bookings. A lot of legwork but in the end I saved nearly 4k.

Sometimes it can be cheaper to buy all or part of a holiday through a travel agent. Some years ago we went to Western Canada and booked through a ‘Canada specialist’; we had some lovely hotels and excursions all of which were at a lower cost than we could have booked them ourselves. This was particularly true for the two day trip on the Rocky Mountaineer train, very expensive but some of these Canada companies make block bookings with hotels and the likes of Rocky Mountaineer making it considerably cheaper. I suppose it comes down to doing your homework.

Good for you! You nearly always save a huge amount doing it yourself ie booking flights and accommodation direct. If booking a regular hotel too ie Hilton you can get fantastic rewards - I get free executive lounge access - free breakfast - free waters - late check out etc, Same with regular flights ie Emirates where you can get some good rewards!
