Against a team with low confidence going so attacking could easily work especially if we dominate possession. But the lack of defensive attributes like tackling, strength , aggression in that midfield scares me. Great on the ball , a worry off it against anyone half decent.

Exactly, saying that 5th to 7th is mid-table "in a Notts sense" is what one poster has ridiculed me for.

The alternative is to say that 12th is a respectable mid-table finish.

I hope my expectations never sink to that level.

Halifax have yet to score and are rock bottom, if we lost then it would be 3 points from the last possible 12..... 0.75 PPG since the opening day is relegation form.

A draw would mean 4 draws on the trot going into the Solihull game, putting big pressure on that fixture.
You would think we were in the same position as Halifax!

The more people stoke it up, the more pressure there will be on the owners.

Much too early imo. It used to be 'Let's see where we are after 10 games'. Now it's 10 minutes!

Of course we want more, of course we all would prefer 12 points. I am disappointed in a way with the start, but far from dismayed and quite buoyed based on the second half performance v Chesterfield.

Fully agree with Stal though on MC tonight, we need to play with more urgency from the beginning.

Plenty of people on here claim to be patient every season, will give the new head coach time etc and needing to see ten or a dozen games to fairly judge a start to a season, but in reality in the NCM dungeon we never even reach six lol.

They display the concentration and patience of a spoilt American tween. And some have the audacity to claim us Notts fans deserve a medal lol

We can't be too far away from the usual {insert player/head coach name} Out thread#viva

My money is on NottsCounty1, but Oddschecker won't give me a price :/

Simple start with the team that ended Saturday, if Scott can play from the start

Just watched Man Utd v Liverpool. United against Brentford got caught out with goalkeeper tippy tapping about with the back 4. Tonight not a single short goal kick or tippy tappy. They earned the right to play and won.
Take note LW… it’s not all about this is how we play, we will do it from the 1st to the 90th minute. Earn the right and then play.

Dead right. Manchester United played some great football tonight, but they didn't mess about the ball (too often) in defensive areas. In fact, getting the ball into their opponent's half frequently and quickly put Liverpool very much on the back foot.

Did Scott play as a wide forward for Gateshead?

I'd rather see Langstaff and Scott as a classic front two, with Ruben behind. I like the 4312 that someone else posted, but for that to work, we would need Chicksen and Brindley bombing on to provide width.

The problem with Chicksen and Brindley is that they do their best work closest to our own goal and "bombing on" isn't their strength. That becomes less of an issue in a flat back four, where defending should be their main task, and the onus is on the wide midfielders to provide the width. Alternatively, we go 4-4-2 and play Nemane as a right winger and perhaps Taylor on the left (we don't actually have a left winger do we?).

Something LW promised - like IB before him - is more intensity from the players, but we've yet to see that other than in flashes. I think if we can produce more of that in the home games and aim for the more stifling, possession-based game away from home, fans might be a little happier. As we know, the possession-for-possession's-sake can become too passive and dull, with the side overlooking the fact that dominating teams should be reflected in the scoreline rather than possession stats.

I really like that. I'd just tweak it slightly and go 4-3-1-2 and put Ruben centrally behind the front two rather than to the left of a three man strike force. That way you have both Scott and Langstaff as central strikers which I believe is how they operated so sucessfully together at Gateshhead? Both strikers could then keep the defenders busy giving Ruben space to link up with the midfield and then go and have a pop at goal himself whilst also feeding the two front men.
