Does anyone know the history of this, are games normally played on this day, or are they not ? If not, is it the fixture congestion caused by the winter World Cup that's caused them to schedule games on Remembrance Sunday this year ?

sinkov, I can go back over the last 10 years quite easily and there have been PL and/or EFL games played on Remembrance Sunday except for 2021 which coincided with International Breaks and the only games played in England were Womens' games.
There were also International Breaks in 2016 when 2 League One games were played and in 2017 when 1 League Two game was played.
In every other season, apart from those mentioned above, there were at least 3 PL games played and quite a number of FA Cup matches. One Championship game has been played in 2012, 2013 and 2019.

It is what it is, however, I take the opportunity to go to The Cenotaph, not just to remember those who perished in the two World Wars but also to remember my 28 friends who have perished while on duty since 1966.
It is all a personal choice and life goes on. Mind you, apart from the International Breaks, the German Bunndesliga has always had fixtures schceduled.

I've been told but I am not sure if it's true but apparently Rovers fans can make their own way to the ground, no more being bussed in and abused by the Lancashire Constabulary.

If this is indeed true, I predict carnage around the town centre from about 10 o'clock onwards. I cannot imagine being around the War Memorial on Sunday morning will be much fun.

    All the more reason for a 3 or 4 o'clock kick-off I suggest.

So it's actually business as usual, games are always played on Rememberance Sunday, in which case I'm not really sure what the fuss is about this time.

You make a good point about the Blackburn knuckle draggers causing havoc in Burnley BT, but that's a police matter. We've been saying for long enough that football fans shouldn't be treated as cattle, this year they aren't, let's see who's been right all along, us or the constabulary. You seem to be putting your money on Plod.

It was the 12 o'clock kick off time that was the problem mon ami, my lad and my youngest grandson have now persuaded me to attend the Remembrance service in Burnley, go to the match and treat them both to a slap-up lunch following the Rovers getting a good slapping.

I was going to ask why not go to Burnley mon ami, but I assumed you had personal reasons for wanting to attend your local one. Now you've got another 30 minutes as well, so we can all be happy I think. Enjoy the game. This is one game I don't give a FF how we play, just don't lose.
