The attempted trimming of Lineker's freedom of speech was yet another reminder of that which occurred in Germany from 1933 onwards. If you make any public comment which is not in agreement with the regime then it and you will be suppressed. The Far Right deliberately run the comparison to its terrible end but the real meaning of the comparison was only the German government's action in the first few years of its tenure. The next German General Election after 1933 was in 1949.
