It's all about (I hate to bring the word up in polite company) Hillsborough. Because those law abiding Liverpool fans did nothing wrong there or in the Heysel stadium or anywhere else, and quite clearly therefore (in the mind of a professional victim) it's all the Royal families fault...when there's no Tory around to blame.
So are all the Celtic and Liverpool fans celebrating today on Coronation Bank Holiday, or are they going to work in protest?
Both clubs were created by methodists.
I think the bigger Irish connection with Liverpool is that they are the bigger team and have many fans from Ireland who come over for games, lots of Liverpool fans come over from Cork. Judging by interviews of fans I've seen outside Anfield, a lot from the South of England too.
EDIT: The founder of Liverpool FC, John Houlding, was a Conservative Councillor and member of the Orange Order, doesn't sound very Catholic.

Or it's just the good old sheep mentality. A few do it, it gets on social media then the rest join in because " that's what we do"
Many having no idea why they are doing it but think it's a good idea to join in.
Give me a national anthem that celebrates the country and its people and I'll sing it loud and proud .
What I won't do and haven't done for years is stand to attention and sing an abhorrent song that celebrates royalty and that these people lives are more valuable than mine or my family .
Not my King and not my National Anthem .
If others are cool with it then fine , crack on and as yesterday at Oakwell I sat on my seat with my mouth closed whilst others around me sang it .
I wouldn't boo it but at the same time nobody had better pull me up for not standing up and singing it either .
You will wish you hadn't .
