Amazing stories. I got into fitba at Euro 92. My dad had a tape o the game (and the Hamburg game) so I reckon I watched it about 9/10 years after it happened without knowing the score.

Gothenberg was affa affa quiet until the St Clair arrived. Then, BEDLAM !!

Stayed out at all night after the match. Firstly in the posh Hotel where all the Teams Wiifes stayed. Underground Disco there, with Drew Jatvie up at the D.J. making him play European song every second tune. Then wandered round lots of rooms. Endinig up in Frank Gilfeathers room , party in full swing. Sat down right next to Ian St John, in a mellow mood. Hey, d`ye ken fa I am min ?? " Oh, it`s you ?? Always wanted to meet you pal" he replied. All mellow , like !! Fine mannie.

Strayed off to some wee disco that was open till daybreak. Wandered around looking for a bus back to the campsite, got hijacked by a Swedish Wifey on her way to cook breakfasts for a hotle full of Real fans. So why not, off to breakfast. ( Still in the redboilersuit I nicked from somewhere. Don`t ask !! )

Finally got back to the campsite , to find a drookit Brother in law waiting for me to fire up the bike and catch the boat to Denmark, for return journey. Man, it was a struggle. Did it though, and spent next day till dark hours in hurling rame crossing Denmark to Esjberg for boat neat day . Campsite Mannie was so sorry with the sight of us, he gave us a cabin to dry out for same price as a tent pitch.

Next day boat to Newcastle. Stopped off for Football Focus in some country pub. Then hammered up the road. Was riding round Dundee on the Saturday . But just wanted home by that time.

First away, last home....and DROOKIT !!!

( Oh aye, we got our picture with my bike on the fornt cover of that E.E. special innaw !! COYR )
    Wonderful story,

Our story started at the Prince of Wales where the owner Peter Birnie made a very special opening for the four of us at 8am. The deal was we took the POW banner to the stadium ( we all forgot and left it in the cabin ) Then down to the ship piped aboard and off we went. Once outside Scottish waters the bar opened it was 30 or 40 p for a tin of Tennents and nips even cheaper. I entered the keepie up competition in them days i could easy do a 100. I managed 3 !! phuckin 3 ! . What an atmosphere the two man band played "The European song endlessly. On board was Gordon Strachan's Sister and the late journo Ian Archer who smoked and dramed his way there and back but a lovely fella.

Gothenburg had few and far between pubs but the one we found was full of Dons fans £26 for 4 pints !!!! in 1983 jings. Off to the game I'd be writing all night if I described that suffice to say the best night ever. After the presentation back to the Ship by laid on bus ..via a fountain full of Dandies including ma wee Brother somehow made sense to be in there as it was a lot drier in there. The St Clair was remarkably quite I think most folk were emotionally drained. But the following night what a phuckin party !!!! I mind it starting with a minute silence for a fellow Dandie who'd had a heart attack at the game and died appropriate and respectful it was. Partied all night . The only raised voice I heard on the whole trip was a crew from a Fraserburgh Trawler arguing whether they should open one of the many 24 case of Tennents they had purchased .. Before or After breakfast. 5 of the most glorious days in my life

    Just watched it on iplayer.

    That was rare.
    What a team.

There's a big lump in the throat moment too.

"Only Scottish team to win two European trophies"

    Never forget.

Of the five Scottish teams who have reached Euro finals, we’re the only one with a 100% record.

    THAT won’t be beaten.

    Fücking losers.

That bit was quite a difficult watch.

It was brilliantly put together, with a great soundtrack too. Aberdeen winning set to Arab Strap & Mogwai

Just switched over to the one on SKY. Jim Leightons looking a bit rough round the edges

I was just a wee bairn 40 years ago. My late father used to say that he watched it in a pub in town, and as soon as the final whistle went, the landlord locked the door.

I asked my maw about this recently, and she can't remember if that was true or not.

    Spot on.

Equally, theres a sad dimension to that - but I agree that I can’t see us getting to another European final again in my/my children’s generation, and beyond.

My father said to me when we won in ‘83 that we’d never experience this again, so appreciate it, I thought he was talking sh***.

Our stars aligned big time - I wanted to go, desperately, but alas my personal financial and other circumstances didn’t permit.

I’ll never, ever forget it though!

Wis a student at the time. Spent most of my money getting there and didn't have much/any to spend in the pubs. Had my duty free and drank that back in my hotel in Boras after the game. Me and my pal spent most of the night telling each other "we've just won the ECWC. No tales of drunken debauchery, was too much of a sap (Donsdaft may have another word) to jump in the fountain, so all in all a very quiet end to the night but it'll live with me forever

All of these stories bring historical context to the magnificent occasion that this truly was. They also give some insight into the demographic of many of the regular posters on this forum, some too young to attend, others too old, more than a few (BBC report) taking unauthorised annual leave and the likes of me who was truly desperate to attend but couldn’t. Above all else, they show how much the Dons team of that era meant to one and all on this forum. The motorbike, two up, story in truly f****** phenomenal though.
