I grew up reading Brian Glanville.
Me too. Several storeys above today’s tabloid hacks in knowledge, presentation, humility, and honesty. A Proper Mannies’ journo. As someone in The Northern Light once said of the EE’s awful coverage: “I could eat alphabet soup and shîte a more coherent article”.
If he’s arisen from the tomb as I stated earlier, it’s a miracle, as his online biog says that he’s still on the grassy side of the turf. Yaas.
File under “people I thought had snuffed it years ago”.
Brian Glanville is still alive??
91.....helluva writer.
Reasonably happy with how we played yesterday. Our front players will dismantle the shyte in this league. When our defensive injuries clear, we’ll be fine.
Deepdale is quite a nice ground. The atmosphere would be great if there were any fans in it
It's 23rd July and we're talking about injuries already.
Thursday Sunday Thursday Sunday.
Aye nice wee Ground. Nice folk too. I wandered around the place before and after. Loads of pubs. Random Dandies everywhere. That away strip is being worn to death. Almost passed as a night out shirt !! Milne showed his inexperience. Shinnie looked best midfield player on the park. Morris showed nothing of any true wingers tricks. Duk looks two weeks behind in training. Preston looked two weeks ahead of us. Ryan Duncan looked far better out wide. Ramada I I never noticed. Devlin was fine as a makeshift C/H . Clarkson was more effective further forward in this game. Fine day out , we should have had a penalty ? Bavidge was manhandled to the ground right in front of the Ref. Preston deserved their win
Indeed, Sneckie.
Although Bruno Glanvilla in the absolute game fanzine was arguably better.
Be That as it may, although I do not believe that Glanville ever wrote for the guardian when he was full time active as a journalist, some clever editor on that woke rag obviously snapped him up to write obituaries for European stars of yesteryear. Here’s a lovely one about France’s greatest striker:

Forgot a few other players who came on later in second half and looked decent ;. Barron took over Clarkson deeper position and. Seemed to get ball moving more efficiently than Clarkson had. Plus Polvaro was decent moving forward. Context is everything if course. PNE were two up , and had started swapping players all over the park. Guess they may have wased off their pressing by then ?
