Unless Faithless is the half time music, then put the volume to the max!
They must have sensors (detecting mics) around the stadium monitoring the volume. And surely it must be dynamically arranged. An empty stadium will require less volume than a full stadium as bodies cushion/absorb the sound. But also I'd hope that it would adjust to the noise of the crowd. To have the volume such that folk are putting fingers in ears is frankly dangerous and reckless. It isn't the Killers at Glastonbury after all, though I understand Download was a bit noisy.

Lol the people putting fingers in their ears were the older ones who are more than likely deaf anyway. I didn't think it was deafeningly loud, but did wonder if it would be difficult to have a half time conversation. I imagine the club will listen to any feedback (I do hate that whistling noise, unless it was during a Jimi Hendrix guitar solo) and alter accordingly.

I can't fault the quality of the sound, but like yourself I found it too loud in the DP. It must be a fine balancing act between it not being loud enough to hear important announcements, but be loud enough to be heard above crowd noise, but not too loud that it's uncomfortable for people.

Today was basically it's first test with an audience and no doubt the club or those who have set it up will review and take on board feedback.
