I think that’s what he’s doing but he got it totally wrong. He’s not even sprinting back as fast as he can as if he does he has a genuine chance to nick/tackle the ball off him, he was a bit similar against Stoke.
LW can coach him on this if he does want to improve.

From that close to the goal Stone has to make a move to left to cover the one across him which is the natural shot from that angle.

Lazy cliche to say a keeper shouldn't be beaten at the near post but from 8 yards he's got little chance of saving that unless Rose hits it at him.

The mistakes from the 3 players before that is more of a concern to allow a striker a free shot at goal

Cannot agree with you Balti Pie!! As he was last week by Camerons back pass, Stone was given absolutely no chance by a sloppy back pass and the failure of Brindley to provide any protection of the goal. Please go back and watch it again. He has to stay central as all the goal is open to the striker.

Exactly this. He seemed in two minds and chose to cover the shot across the 'keeper and lost the 50/50 gamble.

I think having watched the goal back a few times, I think AS could have been a foot or so further over towards his near post, but he had little time to position himself, as he was backtracking after AN's misplaced pass. Brinds should have been going hell for leather to try and get to their guy or at least to block the shot, he certainly wasn't trying to cover the shot into the far corner.

I think the original ratings are pretty fair maybe half a point here and there especially for Nemane who was actually more dangerous the first half than Jones in the 2nd although Jodi contributed to 2 goals where as Aaron only 1
Regarding their first goal although Nemane’s pass wasn’t the best I thought Rawlinson’s starting position was poor if he was a yard further back the ball wouldn’t have beat him and Rose wouldn’t have got in,Brindley should have done better(but he certainly wasn’t a 1 first half) can’t blame Stone Rose(s) did a Cedwyn gave him the eyes and whacked it in the bottom corner

Got to agree on your comment about Brindley, he should have got closer than what he did, he does seem to give forwards to much room in matches,

Watching the goal live I wasn't at all impressed that Stone was beaten at his near stick, which is always the cardinal sin for a goalkeeper, but I agree that Brindley's defending was very odd. He actually checked his run towards Rose as if trying to cut off a possible pass across goal, but in that situation where you're exposed as a lone defender you've simply got to engage the most immediate threat. Brindley's hesitance made it easier for Rose to compose himself and pick his spot very precisely.

The person to blame for the goal was Nemane. No one else. It was his weak back pass that put us in trouble. I cant see why we are trying to pass the buck onto other players.. Its not the first time either that he has put us in trouble passing back..

The reason the keeper covers the near post is so they can dive to cover the far post shot. Where he stood, the striker has an option of both near and far posts which means either Stone has to have amazing reflexes or guess. By taking way the option of the near post means that he forces a shot the the far post which he will know about without guessing so can prepare or it's going to force a pass in which Stone can do nothing about anyway.

It's not a lazy cliche about the near post, it's about taking options away from the striker and making it easier for you as a keeper. When Kasper came out with the verbal poo about the near post, his dad must have face palmed so hard bearing in mind he is/was a massive proponent of taking away strikers options
