It’s not shopping habits have changed - lots of shops are boarded up as small businesses can’t afford the rates and leases. There is no option but to shut up shop!

I don’t watch the news as too depressing but it does reflect the cost of living crisis. If you are ok - then you don’t see it!

PS - don’t believe everything on Google as more pubs closed/closing in this area including restaurants. The Curios Cow which you googled was an existing pub - rebranded and then rebranded again shortly after due to poor footfall. I would bet it won’t last much longer before it closes for good!

There were three clubs in the town but all closed now and that’s not drinking habits
Give me strength! I bet you believe you've answered my points but what you have actually answered bears no relevance whatsoever to anything I’ve written.

For the sake I my sanity I will respond to your last post.

Harrogate. Where have I compared Harrogate to my own area? I haven't. You brought Harrogate into it!

Shopping habits haven’t changed you say! Really. Aren’t you always banging on Amazon etc? You must be the only person on the planet that thinks this.

You don’t watch the news it’s too depressing (sort of proves my point) but still feel able to comment on whether there is too much emphasis on doom and gloom and not enough positivity on it. Explain that!

I’m OK so I don’t see it. That’s some assumption!

You’re still wrapped up in the minutiae of the ‘Curious Cow’ and whether it’s a new pub or an old pub. It doesn’t matter. Someone feels confident enough to put lots of money into its future. Using your omniscient powers you of course know it’s doomed to fail. You think ‘I would bet it won’t last much longer before it closes for good’ I’ll take that bet. Let’s say 3 years is not long. If it’s still open in 2026 £50 to my charity £50 to yours if it’s not.

Night clubs have suffered badly but I do think it has to do with habits. A number of bars in the nearest town to me now have late night licences at weekends and have dj’s. You can get most of what you get from a night club in a bar without paying an entrance fee.

You’re right about one thing. So affluent is the town they have closed the local Wetherspoons and turned it into a bank.
